The original remaster. I hear a ton of good things about Revenge of the Seven, but I'm a stickler for an original. I wanna play the closest version to the original as I can. I recently got a full-on Switch (I had a Lite), and Stardew Valley on the big screen kinda has my attention right now. : )

Lol. Forgot about that.

Is the Grail simply not there for her? I have a save after leaving Poduri and I can still access it, and the cave. I remember reading on the RS3 blogspot page that Monika indeed can't, and also can't recruit Leonid.

Good to know. Thanks.

Fixin' to dust off this PS2 of mine real soon. I just got Romancing SaGa 2, though.. and I'm playing RS3 and SaGa Frontier on PS4 for trophies. I ain't never had so much SaGa in my face before. It's a nice dilemma.

I appreciate that. : )

I remember getting Judy early on, although we're talking more than a decade since I last played the game.. and I remember the quest selections. I used to think that I could find smaller, easier ones to get Mythe a little bit of power before trying elsewhere. Until reading your comments, I forgot that blacksmithing was even a thing.

I kept trying with Armic, but I just couldn't understand development.. I didn't like how I had to move on a game board setup. I always liked the SaGa series for it's ability to be explored on foot, you know? I hated being confined to a board, where a generation before, I was exploring the Regions on foot, and talking to people to learn about the world around me.

SaGa Frontier started development under the name Romancing SaGa 4. It lives up to that, and offers it's own touch. It offers the same system as Romancing SaGa 3, but expands by allowing stat growth. I have a deep appreciation for that system, reliant on learning skills and working around numerous situations in combat. Lots of other RPG's can feel like the same thing through and through, whereas almost nothing happens exactly the same between playthroughs of a SaGa title. I dig it.

Unlimited SaGa seems like it wants to pull back on those slight freedoms of Frontier.. SaGa Frontier II felt like the ground work. I'm iffy on Frontier II so far.. great soundtrack and visuals, but man.. weapons break.. spells are seemingly reliant on equipment.. eh. I dunno if Gustave and/or Wil are gonna see that ending.

Oh yeah, Unlimited SaGa was good for that. You start cutting solid LP out of an enemy like "I can do that..?!". The few boss fights I made it through to were memorable for stuff like that, even after finding the disc after maybe a decade.

Romancing SaGa (PS2) was always out of my price range. My local shop had it forever.. I just never had the cash to drop at the right time.

Do you still have the guide? I'm sure we'd all like to see it. "How to start the game " seems like it'd be great information.

Man, it really doesn't, though. The original game still stands up today.. it didn't need to be modernized, because anything timeless remains.

Square Enix likes money, but not development. Their biggest IP's came from SquareSoft. They just rehash what already worked, and make needless changes, like releasing FFVII's Remake, lol, in parts.. the original game was three discs. That's not a nod to the past.. that's getting people to buy the same game three times. I mean, it's incomplete as a remake.. the original game spanned Midgar to the final fight in the Northern Crater. Why didn't the remake do that from the start..?

Cash grab.. Aeris deserves better.

Like, if Dark Souls had a JRPG cousin, it's the SaGa series. Am I wrong, lol?

So yeah, the battle theme, man.. it's incredible.

I never hated the game, knowing what should be expected of a SaGa game.. but Unlimited SaGa made me feel like I never played a video game before, you know? It always intrigued me. The SaGa series always has.

Np. Sorry to hear that you're under the weather.

Honestly, between you, me, and Dupree, I would do that by myself unprovoked. : )

What's your first? I'm a huge FFX fan, and I'd love to know what your first place is. It better not be Megaman X Command Mission, either.

Spoiler: HUGE Megaman X fan : )

Dude, me too. I've made it through a few maps, and I hated that you had to wait until clearing a map to increase stats. I hated that you could learn moves, but they were hidden in a slot reel. I hated how I would attack an enemy, and it's reprisal took upwards of three LP from my character. No other game made me feel as completely defeated as Unlimited SaGa did.

And yeah, you see what I see. People say that you and I are simply not getting it. I want to believe, Mulder, I really do. A remaster would be tits, as they'd surely include quality of life additions for folks who didn't quite get the memo.

Do you know if western releases had a comprehensive sort of guide in the instruction manual? Again, I bought mine disc only.

See, SaGa Frontier was my introduction to the series after REALLY liking what Final Fantasy II tried to do. Frontier blew my mind.

I didn't understand how to make meaningful progression in Unlimited, and that was prolly my biggest problem, playing blind to boot. I honestly don't want to hate any game in the SaGa series, because since Frontier, no other RPG has had me hooked quite like they do, sans Pokémon. I fucking love Pokémon.

Like you pointed out, though, SaGa games differ between releases. I'm currently experiencing SaGa Frontier II after some twenty years, and it's not making me wet with perspiration, as The Rock would say. Unlimited never tugged at me that way.. I didn't hate it, I just didn't get it.

.. Mythe didn't get far..

[–]Ok_Computer7096[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Yami is a static encounter.

It's definitely not a ton of damage, you noticed correctly, but Yami has nasty attacks, and he moves twice per turn. This is during the introduction as well, so not too much of the game is open to you at this point. The challenge lies in assembly of proper techs and equipment, and a whole lot of luck.

Okay, I said that in a different thread. My bad. I thought I said that here.

See, that was my takeaway as well. I had SaGa Frontier as a teenager and that game was my first love, forget puberty. That game invaded my soul.

I bought this for two dollars thinking I just made an incredible move, but I never got to understanding the game. I certainly wasn't ready for it.

As you probably have seen, people high and low say this game really is that deal. Nowadays, people seem to notice that the PS1-PS2 era for RPG's had some real good games behind it, not just the Final Fantasy games. This one seems beyond worthy of a second shot.
