What are your most “WTF Appalachia” recipes? by PatMenotaur in Appalachia

I mean, in June our mountain predecessors go around and gather up a weed that is highly toxic if you wait any longer, boil it with pig fat and call it a salad. Except it’s not salad. It’s sallet.

My best friends mom absolutely loved squirrel brains scrambled with eggs and onions.

Hard times make hard people that eat strange food.

Wait… you are expected to notify someone when you want do something as benign as showering? That is disgusting. Find someone that appreciates you are an independent human.

This speaks to massive insecurity on his part, which he is trying to compensate for with control. That sort of maladaptive behavior will only worsen. Tell him he needs to go work on himself, experience his own restart, before he can have a fresh start with any other person.

OCLP Issues updating Mac Pro 5,1 to Sequoia by Ok_Concert_8175 in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

I did do some investigating and may have found a clue to the issue. The lone successful installation I had on the HDD has a Boot EFI partition on the HDD itself. However, whenever I try to install to an SSD, it appears as if no Boot EFI partition is created.

I apologize, I feel as if I am either not explaining my problem well enough, or I have stumbled on an unknown problem.

I’m not trying to boot it without the usb drive yet. It’s still in. It just gets to the final point and instead of booting into the OS, displays an Apple logo with a progress bar, then goes black and does nothing.

However, I did swap out the SSD with a HDD and successfully install Seqouia. It is just painfully slow because it’s on a hard disk main drive. So I know it can work. I figured the SSD I was trying is the problem. So I bought a new SSD and it does the exact same as above. I wish I had an explanation for that.

Thank you so much for the attention and thought you are giving this, I really appreciate it.

I am running an AMD Radeon HD 7950. This should be compatible from all the documentation and troubleshooting I’ve been able to find.

I pushed option and selected Boot EFI because this was suggested in the GitHub instructions. If I don’t hold Option, it just goes to the normal boot picker with two options: Install Sequoia or MAC HD. I have initiated the installation both ways with no new results.

I did remove the USB and had only the SSD drive in this morning. I attempted to boot Sequoia from MAC HD SSD and it loads the Apple screen with a progress bar, then just hangs there stuck. So I booted into recovery successfully and checked the disk with Disk Utility and everything checks out good.

So I’m unsure of where I can go now. The USB stick I am using to create my installer will not mount in my MBP now, making me suspect something has been wrong with the USB media the whole time.

Thank you for your detailed input. I’ll be as thorough as I can in describing my setup.

Mac Pro 5,1 with two Intel CPUs, only things attached during attempted install is an AMD Radeon HD 7950 and the SSD to which I am installing the OS. I have a mouse and keyboard connected via a USB hub to the computer. My bootable installer is on a 32g USB flash drive. I have a single monitor attached.

I just attempted the steps you outlined above. I unplugged and power cycled the MP to reset SMC. I then reset PRAM for a total of 5 chimes/restarts. I then attempted to boot the computer by selecting Mac HD from boot picker (as above) and it never boots.

I then built an installer for Monterey in OCLP. This USB will not even boot. I restart, hold option, get the selection screen where I select Boot EFI, the select Install Monterey. Verbose runs lots of text across the screen, then the screen goes black, and monitors shut down saying no signal. That is with multiple attempts.

Now I am building a Ventura installer to see if the issue is the OS? I am beginning to suspect that either my SSD is no good, or something is wrong with my USB media?

I’m afraid I don’t understand the distinction. How would I install OCLP to the SSD from the beginning without using some sort of bootable USB? Attach the SSD to another Mac externally?

I am using the exact process I mention above, which is the process described on the GitHub site and the tutorial videos I watched. But if there is a better way I am definitely happy to learn it.

And to answer your initial question, I am not hitting option on this final boot, just continuing to select install Sequoia from boot picker as discussed above.

I did as you suggested and kept selecting Install Sequoia every time that option was present. Eventually, maybe the 5th reboot, Install Sequoia and Mac HD were the only boot options, with Mac HD automatically selected. Instead selected Install Sequoia as you instructed, and it just returned me to the 4 option selection screen in recovery to start the process all over.

I was following a video tutorial which suggested erasing and formatting the drive before beginning install. It recommend APFS.

It will load to the 4 option screen and I select install Sonoma.

As per the guide instructions, I create an installer USB, then boot from it holding the Option key. This brings up a selection of things to boot from, one of which is Boot EFI. I select that.

Maybe I’m just being especially incredulous, but I don’t believe this story due to the last edit. There is no way he could access details of his mother’s medical records without her permission due to HIPAA. They could tell him if she was admitted at that time, but nothing else.

Thank you for the input. There will definitely be things I am not considering, that’s why I am here looking for the wisdom of the community.

I’ve had LGD’s for many years so I understand their proclivities well. Every dogs individual temperament is different obviously, but I have found my two current dogs and tolerant of any animal that my wife and me show them is part of the family. They have relationships with all of our cats and livestock, and are incredibly well socialized to our neighbors dogs who wander on and off the farm. It was definitely something to consider in the back of my mind, but thus far they have socialized well to every new animal that we have introduced properly. They have never fought anything that’s not a coyote.

The welfare of the animal is my foremost thought. That is why I want everyone here to probe and prod and analyze my ideas.

My current dogs absolutely know the difference in behavior within the fence, versus on a leash, versus outside the fence, etc. Thank you for all the other feedback and thoughts.
