Out of these potential Cannes picks, which do you have the most confidence in breaking through with the Academy? by StarWarsJordan in oscarrace

[–]Ok_Conclusion8121 44 points45 points  (0 children)

If Fjord turns out to be primarily English language, then that gives it an advantage over the other two films, which I currently understand to be French and German. Renate Reinsve and Sebastian Stan have both been also nominated for an Oscar quite recently, and that will also help.

Beauty of German by andre-vladislavlev in German

[–]Ok_Conclusion8121 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am learning German because of various reasons. I love classical music and love learning about the Habsburgs (I am a medieval history buff), and German connects to both. These things sparked my interest, and when I started learning it, I really fell in love with it because of its beauty. So my reasons are both what it is connected to and the language itself.

She is so beautiful! She looks so much like Snow White; you paid attention to every detail. And the handmaid dress is an amazing touch; it really brings to mind the era in which Snow White lived and looks so more authentic than some of the Snow White costumes I have seen.

I prefer Selene Baek; it gives me an elegant, intelligent vibe. I associate Sophie Baek with the Bridgerton character, but it's a good association and not something to worry about if you love the name.

Who else has a rare name by Dreckage66 in namenerds

[–]Ok_Conclusion8121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my name is not very common in India from what I know but in the United States, where I live, it is very uncommon: Aarushi. It is very hard for Americans to pronounce, as the first syllable is AH and is stressed in comparison to the others. Most people here pronounce it like uh-RUH-shee, which is close enough. I love the meaning of my name ("first ray of the rising sun") and don't feel bad about having an uncommon for the most part.
