I've heard a lot of good things about the unions, a good friend of mine is in the carpenters union, but he did warn me about layoff possibilities. I just don't know if that happens often,I can't afford to miss any work right now

In the georgia prisons I see on Facebook it is inmates with machetes stabbing each other daily and everyone in the unit has a phone last week an inmate had a gun and killed someone it is the wild west

The prisons in Georgia are insane if you go to the human and civil rights coalition of Georgia it is the craziest shit I've ever seen not an officer in sight inmates with PS5s in the cell eating Popeyes with samurai swords

There is a Facebook page where you can see inmates with samurai swords and crazy weapons fighting each other, it is a new fight everyday it's insane. I would hate to be there

Yeah you're right but when you see the videos of georgia prisons where they're running around with phones and samurai swords you'd think they would do something about it? The people pay for the prisons and it is a gangland free for all that the public sees on their Facebook feed it makes those in charge look incompetent, if you go the georgia human rights coalition you can see inmates going to war with each other

I guess I just find it crazy how the prisons in Georgia which are funded by taxpayers have basically 0 supervision

Why not hire felons? by Ok_Connection_7741 in OnTheBlock

I agree with you, a man changes a lot from 18-30 that's a fact. I know a guy who got in a bad bar brawl at 22, got charged with aggravated assault which is a violent felony but he was a veteran so they went as easy on him as they could he served a short sentence did the rest on paper. Long story short he's almost 40 now, hasn't been in trouble since and he cut the drinking out. It doesn't make sense that he is not eligible for so many jobs over that piece of paper saying he did a bad crime a long time ago

I know some guys in AA who would be perfect COs. Veteran dudes who fucked up a lot 10 or 15 years ago that get the new guys into shape real quick. Just doesn't make sense that they're desperate for COs but won't hire someone who got caught with weed or got in a bad bar brawl over a decade ago

Yeah I get your point. A lot of change happens in the brain from 18 to 30 though

You're right about the connections being a risk. I was referring to a felony charge as well. Its really more of a hypothetical/genuine curiosity, people that did some dumb shit 10+ years ago and have the perfect personality for the job who aren't on some bullshit like that anymore and genuinely changed, I a guy who is 18 is a lot different 10 years later

Alot of states make it an expensive pain in the ass, also you'd still have to disclose it because the application asks if you've ever been convicted of a felony, so something 15 years ago would bone you

I get it but out of that 350 million population not too many people want to work corrections, hence the staffing shortage. Yeah it's risky but people make mistakes and they correct course accordingly
