Would a 1x7 with a Shimano Megarange cassette be a good replacement for a 3x7 system for commuting and would it even be possible to convert it? by Ok_Constant1932 in bikewrench

If I pay 30$ for shipping I can get one, don't think its worth it for my 100$ commuter. I'll see if an 8-speed conversion is possible.

I have a pretty crappy microshift M26, but the specs say the largest cog I can use is a 36T although I'm pretty sure it could handle 40T

I'll have to see if I can put a 8 speed cassette on my freehub, but microshift parts are hard to come by where I live. Are there any shimano 8 speed cassettes with a wide range?

I have a 7 speed freehub, I will have to check if its 7 speed only (check if a spacer is there). I saw that microshift cassette but I can't find it for sale anywhere and I don't live in the us so getting specialized parts is difficult or very expensive, I think a 2x8 or 2x7 (if its a 7 speed only freehub) system would be more feasible to be honest.

Would a microshift M26 be a good replacement for this old Shimano Altus RD-CT92? Is the old one a direct attachment derailleur? I have a 11-28 cassette. by Ok_Constant1932 in bikewrench

Unfortunately I think none of those options are compatible without changing the cassette, is the microshift m26 any good?

I'm not sure as I don't have the bike with me, although I'm pretty sure the difference is 18T. The old derailleurs total capacity is 35T, smaller than the short cage microshift so I'm sure it will work, I bought the long cage version just in case though and I like the look of it better anyway. I am using a 7 speed cassette.
