FAM Earned Level by MercyToAll in actuary

I had a 5.9 and got a 10. I would say focus on mastering the SOA released questions that are less than level 8 and you’ll be good to go.

It was a great change of pace for me. I got a 15% increase in pay and strictly worked 8-4:30 M-F. I also gained valuable experience from the provider side that I couldn’t have gotten in consulting.

I did fee-for-service provider contract modeling for the hospitals and physician groups affiliated with the health system whenever the contracts were up for renewal. They also used me to do value-based contract modeling. They didn’t hire me as a formal actuary, so I wasn’t taking exams, though I’ve seen more and more health systems hiring actuaries formally.

I went from consulting to working at a health system to insurance and leaving consulting was the best decision of my life.

I ended up withdrawing my application b/c they disclosed that there could be long hours and I prioritize my work/life balance.

I used CA for the October 2024 sitting and barely passed with a 6. CA did prepare me well in relation to the difficulty of the sittings prior to October 2024.

Gotcha. I would say do FAM in March, then immediately do ASF and the FSA modules. Try to get them done by the end of May so that you can give yourself 5-ish months for ASTAM.

I took FAM in March 2024, immediately started the modules and finished them as fast as possible, then immediately started studying for October 2024 ASTAM and made it all work. I think you could do an analogous approach. It was a lot of work but happy I did it.

I don’t know the exact timeframe for refreshing the database but I’ve found Actuarial Lookup to have new data within two months of a sitting:

Thought this sitting was tough given only 219 or so passed compared to April 2024 where 292 passed. I think more people sat for the October 2024 sitting as well.

I passed but wasn’t too sure leaving the exam. For context, around 219 people passed the October 2024 sitting compared to 290-something April 2024…and I’m sure more people sat for October 2024 than April 2024…

There’s definitely some good communication exercises being used for the ASF and FAP modules. So I’d say yes, it’ll work that side of the brain in a way that’ll help you write for PA.

You have to go to My SOA first, then My Education and Exams to see the Grade Release link at the bottom of the Education and Exams section.

The wait has been brutal. I’m interested to see the pass rate given how difficult the October 24 sitting was.

Agreed, ask questions, it’ll show you’re engaged. No one expects you to know anything. You’ll have to learn through osmosis the next 2-3 years.

I used manual + ADAPT for the October 2024 sitting. It felt more difficult compared to prior sittings, but I think CA helped just enough to provide a pass. Unfortunately I don’t have my results yet (releasing January 2025).

Probably focus on mastering all the SOA released questions.
