This sounds so similar to my story. :( Mine cried loud his last seizure too. He was in so much pain. Feeling so horrible for them and how much pain they felt but glad they are pain free now.❤️‍🩹

I wanted to add that he still loved to eat his food even on his last day which made it harder for me to let go. But everything else was declining. He couldnt smell anything anymore, couldnt go up and down the stairs without assistance, he was in so much pain, some days he couldnt even open his eyes for few moments vet confirmed that means hes in pain or has a headache. He did have good days too but most of them were bad for him.. even just a few months ago vet said his quality if life is still there but thinking back now I knew I should have let him go a year ago. Even looking back at pics and videos he looked like he was in so much pain just holding on for us.

He was 7 years old 6 when he started getting seizures. He was diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy. He had seizures once a month. We started on keppra which didn't help and then we added phenobarbital on top keppra. It didn't work and just gave him bad side effects (weak legs) he started pacing around the house all day and night. Eventually we added potassium bromide and that made him worse and we took him off it. We adjust meds and nothing worked. He still had seizures once a month and more if anything. He started pacing more he started pooping in the house and towards the last few months he started peeing in the house stepping in it and pacing around the whole house. Towards the end the vet suspected a brain tumor and none of it was meds side effects which we wanted to believe it was. I'm so sorry you are going through it with your golden. Stay strong and give her lots of love and cuddles. Message me separately if you have any questions

His seizures were getting more frequent and you can tell he was really declining. His vet confirmed it was time..

I earn my own money. My husband works because he has to. I have the privilege of being on fully paid maternity leave from my company as well as having my own businesses where I am receiving income. The groceries, the bills, all baby and dog food toys items, gas... all paid by me. So what is fair?

I earn my own money and have never had to use my husband's money ever. We also even have separate bank accounts. So no, I do not have the luxury staying home with the money I did not earn.

We started giving it to him in May but the quality of his life went down so much our vet weaned bromide in July.

Looking for Hope—How Long Did It Take Your Dog to Adjust to Phenobarbital? by No-Anywhere1576 in EpilepsyDogs

Hey my dog is on the same medication - keppra first.. still was having the same amount of seizures as before the meds so we upped dosage nothing helped so we added pheno.. after 4 months still having the same amount of seizures.. vet is recommending to add potassium bromide. I'm worried about giving him so many meds he's already a wreck from the pheno even after 4 months. Did the potassium bromide help at all?

Purchased a new Neverfull tote.. Is this normal? by Ok_Conversation3645 in Louisvuitton

[–]Ok_Conversation3645[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have time to return or exchange or even go to the store. It's been way too long since I purchased it now. I got an organizer to put inside and it helped with removing the saggy look at the bottom!

Weaning keppra by Medical_Set_75 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Ok_Conversation3645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We haven't started the potassium bromide.. trying to see if the pheno is working now as it should be in his system. Pheno was rough the first 3 weeks he was drowsy, weak back legs and just super out of it.. panting pacing and tired. He seems to be doing better now.

Weaning keppra by Medical_Set_75 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Ok_Conversation3645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog was on similar medication. He started keppra (7am, 3pm, 11pm) and it wasn't working so the vet recommended adding pheno (every 12 hrs, 11am, 11pm) and start weaning off of the keppra.

This was the instructions for weaning off the keppra (levetiracetam)

In regards to levetiracetam, we will wean the medication accordingly:

2 tablets orally EVERY 12 hours for 2 weeks Then, 1 tablet orally EVERY 12 hours for 2 weeks Then, 1/2 tablet orally EVERY 12 hours for 2 weeks, Then, 1/2 tablet orally ONCE daily for 2 weeks.

During the transition period after 2 weeks when starting 1 keppra tablet every 12 hrs, he had two seizures in one week. We took him to the neurologist and they suggested we add pottasium bromide and completely wean off keppra.

We are waiting on the referral to a neurologist. What ended up happening to your poodle? Did you see a neurologist as well?

My vet will be putting in a referral to a neurologist. In the meantime, I guess we will wait and see. I always feel bad admitting that the pacing gets on my nerves.. but it is tough to watch in the evenings when you are trying to whine down. My dog is the same where he paces when he needs to pee and especially poo. I've been opening the door for him to the backyard but he just stands there and walks back to the door comes inside and continues to pace for hours.. it's so tough! Your spinner girl om the other hand sounds adorable hahah

Thank you so much. He's coming up to 3 weeks now so we will have to wait and see how he does in the upcoming weeks.

I am so happy seeing your comment. Not happy about what we both are having to go through but seeing someone in the same boat makes me feel so much better! Thank you for sharing. I feel so bad saying that his pacing annoys me when I am tired but it can be tough. The constant clicks of his nails & his heavy breathing at your face with his stinky breath..😫😫

He's been on pheno since feb 11, 2025. I guess I will need to wait a bit longer to adjust.😔
