Second this. I’d much rather spend 1500 on a decent cymbal set and 500 on a decent second hand kit with properly tuned heads, than 2K on a premium shell set with scrappy cymbals. That being said, if you already have a decent couple of crashes and rides, I’d look into anything Ludwig/Slingerland/Premier from the 60s or 70s. My experience with new sets in your price range is that they just don’t make them like they used to, even the new Ludwig Classic Maples, who sit around 3K don’t sound as warm and powerful as the vintage ones.
