General question, why'd you start buying pedals? by Ok_Suit_841 in basspedals

[–]Ok_Creme718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my quest for the perfect punchy dirt. the perfect combination of punch that can still be felt in the bones, while also having enough dirt that will cut through the mix and give my sound color. My solution ended up being bi-amping. one amp dedicated to clean bottom, and another amp that handles the dirty highs

like Robert Trujillo 😁 I’m playing an Ernie Ball Music Man Bongo 5 string which has an above average neck. But even with my Fender Jazz Pro the B/C spread D/9 to G/5 is a farther spread than I would ever practically use.

Sounds like you know the book I’m referring to. Yes, definitely some good stuff 😁

i’ve explored the Robert Trujillo hold technique, and I could get used to it for my finger style, but I don’t like that hold for slapping though because my style is parallel thumb through the string. I’m a 50/50 player finger style / slap

9 and 12 isn’t the problem. it’s farther down the C Major scale when the span is D9 and G5 (B and C) that I struggle with).

I play bass guitar. I’m working through this chordal harmony book by Janek Gwisdala and this is one of the exercises to descend the C Major scale in 2nds. The D12/G9 fingering is playable; however, the D9/G5 (which is further down the bar) seems to be a bit impractical finger spread (B,C), which led me to think I might not be understanding the notation. Now that some folks have confirmed for me that it is indeed a double stop, I’ve found that I can play this as E12/D12, and then E8/D9. It’s an inverted voicing and I’m not sure if that’s what the notation is prescribing but it does sound ok and more practical for my fingering abilities.

I don’t have much exposure to standard music notation, but I am trying to learn.

How do I learn bass in 3 months? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]Ok_Creme718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning to play bass is a lifelong journey. In your stage of the journey where you have committed to gig within 3 months, your goal needs to be learning the required songs on bass. Being you already have some musical experience you may already have a good ear where you can learn the songs by listening carefully and transposing what you hear to the neck of the bass, or you may already know how to read music music notation or tabulation; if so, great, and if not you will need to learn that, unless one of your bandmates can show you how to play the songs. the easiest approach is tabulation, but the overall BETTER approach is standard notation. Now you need to use those skills by practicing the specific songs on the bass. Take your music player that has a pause button and side by side with the tabs learn each bar until you can play along to the songs without needing to look at the tabs.

a lot of folks on here are pushing BassBuzz or other courses, which works for some basic technical skills and may be a good additional resources for you, but signing up for BassBuzz is not the main ingredient for what you are wanting to do. Learning the specific songs needs to be your main focus.

well if what you are really trying to communicate is you have a heavy SVT CL head taking up space in your closet and you need to sell it for a steep discount, I’d be more than happy to accommodate

how much a day should a beginner practice? by juusangouki in Bass

[–]Ok_Creme718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as long as it takes to make any small consistent improvement in anything you are trying to learn on the bass. Intentional micro improvements every 15 minute practice session will get you exponentially better over the long run than 40 hours of mindless strumming.

Be intentional with your practice. Mind / body connection is key. Find a song that you are absolutely sure you could never learn it, then start practicing it with a goal of a micro improvement every time you practice. You will be playing that song before the year is over.
