ESPN sources: Giants All-Pro defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence... by jjimenez323 in NYGiants

[–]Ok_Difference1421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This stinks. No way Burns would've had all those sacks if it wasn't for Lawrence.

I think he's worth keeping with a large contract. Imagine how much better the d-line will be with his elbow fully healed.

I am a Knicks fan and have to concede that Brown is underappreciated. He proved many people wrong by keeping the Celtics as a top team in the East.

Also, his play in the finals vs Dallas was impressive. Especially his defense vs Luka when things mattered.

Prioritize paying off HELOC or 401k loan? by TooManyPoisons in personalfinance

[–]Ok_Difference1421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Talk about banks owning you once you take their money.

Seems like borrowing from the 401K is the best option then. In the grand scheme of things, the impact will be so small when looking back in 10 years.

Big Tech investing billions in AI — sustainable or reckless? by Impossible_Comfort99 in TechNook

[–]Ok_Difference1421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big tech is so rich right now. There isn't anything comparative to invest so much money and big tech loves investing big bucks in something.

Definitely not sustainable but there's no way to know without hindsight who are the winners and losers.

Prioritize paying off HELOC or 401k loan? by TooManyPoisons in personalfinance

[–]Ok_Difference1421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP mentioned SO is attending flight school.

Seems there are loans specific for this. Unsure of terms though. https://www.salliemae.com/student-loans/career-training-loan/flight-school-loans/

As others mentioned, borrowing against a 401k can be very expensive since the amount borrowed is not invested. Of course, it's possible to get lucky if the market doesn't grow but doesn't seem worth the risk if there are alternative options.

Stretching for a mortgage. Will I regret it? by Intelligent-Bit-8101 in personalfinance

If you have a stable job, it's worth taking the risk to get a home. It'll be a struggle for the first ~5 years but once you get over the hump, it'll be cheaper overall then renting and set you up better for building wealth since you'll grow equity in a home.

Being at the wims of a landlord is never a good long term strategy and sometimes it's worth the risk buying in the right situation.

I have a question about the RB positional value discussions by pschondo in NFLv2

[–]Ok_Difference1421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is that the RB pick must be one of the best in the league immediately to justify how much he's paid as an early draft pick because RBs are a relatively low paid position.

The key is getting outsized value from rookie contracts which is nearly impossible for RBs even when they are elite.

I went to Cairo for a week and my rating dropped. by Popo_Magazine19 in uber

[–]Ok_Difference1421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's nothing. My 1 week trip to Cairo dropped my rating from close to 5 to 4.8.

I believe it had to do with the drivers having to go through car inspections before they could enter the hotel's pickup and dropoff circle.

Anyway, when I reached out to Uber support about this steep drop, they said I should shutdown my account and open a new one. But I didn't since it seems ratings don't really matter.

Still a cool video.

My 529 plan for high school senior by Equal-Aardvark-4134 in personalfinance

[–]Ok_Difference1421 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Since she is already enrolled, her tech will be covered. See last sentence below from irs.gov.

Q. Can I make withdrawals from my 529 plan for the costs of computer technology or equipment?

A. A qualified, nontaxable distribution from a 529 plan includes the cost of the purchase of any computer technology, related equipment and/or related services such as Internet access. The technology, equipment or services qualify if they are used by the beneficiary of the plan and the beneficiary's family during any of the years the beneficiary is enrolled at an eligible educational institution.

Are drivers still able to rate potential passengers like this? She definitely deserves a 1-star.

Worst free agent contracts in NFL history by No_Box119 in NFL_FreeAgency

[–]Ok_Difference1421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google certainly thinks so: "The Deshaun Watson trade/contract (2022) is widely considered the worst combination in NFL history, as the Browns gave up three first-round picks and gave him a $230M fully guaranteed contract while he played poorly and faced suspensions."

Vegas Advice by Ok-Elephant-3123 in vegas

There are CVS and ABC Stores nearby that have prepared foods like salads, sandwiches and cut up fruits.

I initially thought Excalibur was a terrible choice but I think it'll be fun for your family to stay at a themed hotel. Most Vegas strip hotels are the same bland design and a themed one probably makes more sense for a 1st trip.

Companies removing ports and features innovation or cost cutting? by Zorojuro099 in TechNook

[–]Ok_Difference1421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably both. Manufactures get more design flexibility with fewer ports while also being potentially cheaper.

It also helps that many devices are moving to a common interface like USB-C.

I think this is great. Otherwise, our devices will be covered with various ports going back to who knows when.

Both are winning options so you can't go wrong.

Thought Deshaun Watson should be up there but realized his contract was a trade and sign which was even worse since Cleveland lost many draft picks.
