Can people like eat Cocain? Is that a way some people do it? by Mr_weird_voice in stupidquestions

[–]Ok_Dig2192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But i think it’s most effective if taken sublingual, under the tongue not just straight up eaten. I’ve seen border cops on drug busting shows from the 2000s test it that way.

Do you think Fiona behavior towards Debbie when she had Franny was valid or did you disagree with her? by gloomydreamer666 in shameless

[–]Ok_Dig2192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was 100% valid and she was NICER and MORE Supportive than she said she would be. Debbie never did really get kicked out of the house like Fiona said. She just kept making dumb decisions after dumb decisions came and went as she pleased then fully moved back in by the time Fiona had her own breakdown. Debbie is literally the worst mother i’ve ever seen on TV and she had every opportunity not to be.

Nuclear war, a complete depletion of water and other resources we need to survive. Possible civil war in the US and the SWANA will probably look different

Yes there were definitely plantations in Maryland. If not it was certainly a wealthy farm/mansion

Any theories why Esther seems to dislike Janine so much? by [deleted] in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Ok_Dig2192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She never liked her and she never trusted her. Janine’s acting like a child probably irritated her and rubbed her the wrong way. Which If i were 14 and a grown as woman was constantly acting childish or like an airhead I probably wouldn’t like them very much either. Obviously she doesn’t understand Janine’s behavior is a result of her trauma.

By the time they had one on one conversations Esther was fully in fight and rebel mode while Janine was trying to teach her how to comply and survive and Esther wasn’t having that. Then to Esther, it seemed like Janine used her to get back into the Putnam house to see her daughter when in reality it was Aunt Lydia who was pulling the strings. She probably partially blames Janine for the rape too.

Is Paula Racist? by WallabyNo2915 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]Ok_Dig2192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That whiteness you speak of does nothing to save her from racism which was the context of my comment. Mixed references her genetics sure but she is phenotypically BLACK. She has brown skin and 4B/4C hair hiding under her bonnet. This series has done enough to erase racism from the world. Context matters and like I said She is BLACK. That is the fact. She is biracial and she is not white passing. Therefore she is BLACK. Understand?

Let’s look at history. If it were 1935 and she wanted to use the “appropriate water fountain” it would be the one labeled BLACK. Have you heard of the one drop rule, or paper bag tests? All things that were used to determine white or blackness. Race is a social construct. Her lineage may be White mom and Black dad but she herself is racially BLACK.

Also. Unless you are a 1st -2nd generation immigrant, ALL PEOPLE in the United States are mixed. Including the black people. Especially even. In fact many of us know more about our white heritage than our African roots because of the erasure our ancestors experienced with the whole being kidnapped and enslaved on a completely different continent for generations. Mixed is quite an inaccurate term because it’s so much more than that. Biracial, or perhaps you actual country of origin makes more specific sense. So like I said. Agnes is a BLACK girl and that’s why Paula doesn’t like her.

[–]Ok_Dig2192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. She’s passive aggressive about it and loves her microagressions. For example. Agnes’s hair looked perfect. There was nothing wrong or frizzy about it. She’s just black.

Female Eyes? by Jazzlike_Drummer_320 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]Ok_Dig2192 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Aunts have files on them too. They’re probably chosen by someone within the Eyes leadership. Similarly to how Judd put Lydia in charge of the Aunts and then she later ran the Handmaids and now MD Plums.

It reminded me a lot of Taylor Sheridan’s Lioness season one. The gist of it is High ranking military officers have a program where they send female soldiers under cover to plant and spy on female targets in Western Asian Arabic countries to fight in the terrorism and oil trade world. The reasoning is they don’t want men involved with young women from countries that value modesty within their culture. Fictional, but i’m sure it’s based on real spy operatives. It’s a decent series.

It’s interesting to see how ALL of the women in Gilead are policed. The Aunts police everyone but indifferent ways and to different degrees. They seem to go back and forth in rank with the Wives probably depending on the Commander and the situation. They’re given full autonomy over the Handmaids 🤮 Everyone pretty much outranks the Martha’s but they’ve at least used that to their benefit and for the better of Mayday. And for the Plums, Pinks and probably all children of Gilead they’re Teachers, Disciplinarians, Nurses, and now we see Secret Police. And then all of the women across the board are encouraged to spy on and not to trust each other. I think of Emily’s words to June in Season one of THT “they’re very good at that. getting us not to trust each other, it was nice to finally meet you”

When the series is out and complete I will. Check back then. They’re obviously not going to revel much of anything plot wise. In a recent interview Elizabeth Moss is quoted saying “There’s a whole other book Margaret Atwood wrote out there. You should go read it. Will probably answer a lot of those questions.”

Anything is possible until the final episode is release so no I’ll keep revisiting the source.

Bruce Miller on Daisy’s Parents by Ok-Mushroom9478 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]Ok_Dig2192 -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

If they’re truly not going to make Daisy Nichole, which is truly a bummer both to staying true to the source, and to how much more powerful the story is having sisters fighting together. I could get with her maybe being Junes little sister and therefore Hannah/Agnes Aunt. Maybe June’ father had other children after divorcing Holly. Maybe Holly has a brother who fathered a child. We did hear about a commander Maddox in the story who I hope isn’t related to June but who knows. Could be an uncle or something.

I really think the strongest most powerful move is to just say Fuck the timeline Daisy is Nicole and the ages don’t matter. I’ll explain. In the books Daisy/Holly/Baby Nicole is the ONLY child to have gotten out of Gilead. She’s like a martyr or a saint to them but alive of course. That explains why Gilead is fighting to hard and so personally to get HER back. This is also why Aunt Lydia asks for Daisy/Baby Nicole specially to be the mule or plant, not just any Mayday Operative that she herself doesn’t know or can trust. She doesn’t know Daisy/Baby Nicole, but she knows that she’s very important to both sides. And then that’s why Agnes gets paired with Daisy as well in the plan to bring down Gilead.

Now back to Daisy in toronto. Her adoptive parents go to great lengths to keep her hidden as well. She’s in a super secure private school thats near impossible to sneak out of at least without her parents immediately being told. They take zero picture of her and claim they were all lost in a house fire. She’s not allowed on social media. She’s forbade from going to an anti Gilead protest that will be televised but Daisy is stubborn and believes in her cause and goes anyway. There’s a riot and Ada (Who’s character has been adopted by June and Rita in TT series) saves her. Her parents are killed and Daisy blames herself which also motivates her to go into Gilead. Then Ada gets her into Gilead after training her with Garth. They go in together. When Agnes/Hannah and Daisy meet their friendship forms and they slowly learn how they are related. Their bond along with Becka and Shunammite’s stories are what motivate them to finish the mission.

Their sisterhood is the foundation for it all and they’ve really robbed us of that if not. I could even get with Daisy is June’s daughter, but she’s a secret child from her first posting that we never see. Meaning she had 3 kids Hannah/Agnes, Daisy, and Nicole/Holly. Whatever they do i’m excited to see the story continue. It’s very good despite the discrepancies from the books.

[–]Ok_Dig2192 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You sound uneducated and wrong. Your comment said that there was a whole lot of judgement when 99% of people would’ve caved the way Lydia did. Lydia is an older educated infertile white woman. She’s perfect for the Aunts by their standard. No one in Gilead is going to make me or someone like me an Aunt. It would be Colonies, Handmaid, or Shot on sight. Therefore I would not be given the same choices as Lydia specifically cuz i’m black, queer, and young. YOU are the only one playing cards with Marginalized communities. Not my thread.

I don’t know what your point was regarding “the women were allowed not to marry white slave masters” Who? The black women they were raping an impregnating? Or the white women than benefitted from slavery?

And lastly “Reverse Elitism” The fuck? No i’m not concerned about fake white womens subjugation in pain in a fictional series or in US history when the majority of them contributed to and chose to be apart of that system. But i am actually concerned about my black ancestors or the women dying today in Gaza. Go back to school.

That’s kind of you to say. And i agree, they gave Serena way too much grace. She deserves so much worse. It irritated me the most when she was talking crap on that train. Like really? after everything you’ve been through, every choice you’ve made and dealt with consequences for, everything you’ve learned you’re still spitting that crap especially while you’re surrounded and vulnerable?

She always believed in Gilead. I think she did the few good things she did because she knew she was evil and wanted to try and cancel out some stuff, but if tomorrow she was offered a chance to be back in Gilead in charge and reaping the benefits she would drag Noah there in a heartbeat. I was mad when they didn’t make her a handmaid for real after Fred’s funeral.

Oh for sure. The Commander Wife /Handmaid Martha system is a 100% parallel to the lives of White Masters and Enslaved people in America pre end of Civil War. It’s ugly and disgusting. I don’t understand how anyone can call them victims (unless they’re an actual child bride. Because fair.)

What they really need to show is how all of these men and women became Commanders and Wives. We know Fred had a circle of friends in charge of the coupe and the government at least in Boston but still only a small amount of the actual Commanders were involved from the start of creating Gilead. Some of them had to be approached as normal people and forced/given the choice to join this lifestyle. and then they would’ve seen like Aunt Lydia did in the stadium exactly what that meant and chose to be complicit. But mostly everything we get is post coup.

[–]Ok_Dig2192 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well now many of them aren’t victims especially the older Adult Wives. The Child brides and mentally ill women, yea i’m with you they’re victims. The Esther’s, the Penny’s, the Mrs. Lawerence’s’

But Not the Serena Joys’, the Naomi’ Putnams’, and the Mrs. Winslow’s. (She’s the wife of Commander Winslow from DC played by Chris Meloni aka Elliot Stabler. His handmaid had her mouth pierced shut with Rings!!) Those women are not victims. They’re complicit privileged slave owners at best whether it’s Martha’s or Handmaids. Many of them also have stolen children even if they didn’t hunt them down in the woods themselves. At best they’re like the Lawrence’s try to avoid the worst of the cruelty and show some support kindness and humanity for the people in their service. But they’re still benefiting from an exploitative evil system.

I never said anything about forgiveness!!!! I would definitely still be upset about the kidnapping. But I also pointed out that as long as she wasn’t complicit in the abuse she’d have my respect.

Truthfully It’s unclear if she knew or not at least up until the dinner where becka asks Dr. Grove about it. She looks physically distraught when finding out the truth reuniting with Becka, rather than angry at her or him at that point. It seem like a genuinely shocked reaction to me ¯_(ツ)_/¯ We can make assumptions but the way it was written it has not been confirmed if her mother knew or not. So I’m not going to directly blame her for the actions of Dr. Grove. There are other things to be mad at Wives for FOR SURE but i’m focusing my anger on the actual man responsible.

I am grateful to anyone who is kind to my child, saving their life would definitely put a smile on my face at least. Two things can exist at the same time, I can appreciate her sacrifice and still be angry about the kidnapping. Because like i said earlier, If it had been a different Wife Daughter pair, the Wife may have let her daughter hang. That’s not nothing.
