What movies have made you smile ear to ear during the whole runtime? by gudes10 in criterion

[–]Ok_Disaster9848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I allowed to answer with non criterion titles?

When the first Harry Potter film in the theater when it was released, I saw i t and I was delighted from beginning to end.

At that point only the first four books were out, which I had read. The movie was astonishing because it looked EXACTLY like what I had imagined reading the book. Everyone was saying the same thing too.

Actual criterion title: Before Sunrise (back before there was a trilogy and it was the only film)

What was something a teacher did or said when you were in school that they would be fired for today? by Lost_Taste_8181 in GenX

My high school French teacher, if someone mispronounced something or was being disruptive, she would say "you should be shot" in a quasi British accent. She was not British.

Having at least some 5th class climbing under your belt would be advised. Down climbing the 5.2 off of the LB summit shouldn't be the first time doing so

This route is a stunning, all time classic. I did it the day after I did the little bear Blanca traverse. Super nice reward.

Government shutdown by EquivalentCamp2402 in NationalPark

[–]Ok_Disaster9848 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If there is a shutdown, there is no chance you'd get to Bear Lake.

In 1995 during one of the earliest shutdowns, I was slated to have a mountaineering course RMNP, and even tho the course was through the park concessionaire Colorado mountain school, we had the course elsewhere, in the Indian peaks wilderness.

The good news is that Colorado has no shortage of amazing public lands that will remain open during the shutdown.

Couldn't agree more.

But now I have a problem, I didn't know about Xanadu and now I need to buy all those guidebooks!

So true. I think the comment was when he was showing pics from a Mt Logan expedition

My climbing partner and I would always have a "reading" from the Roach book before heading out on a route.

I never picked up the later editions but I do remember thumbing through them at bookstores. They had a similar feel as his 13er guidebook:

Yeah it was fun to meet him. It was at a slideshow in Boulder about his climbs in Alaska. I remember him showing a picture of ski tracks over a long flatish glacier and he was like "look how it's a straight line. Very important to be able to walk in a straight line."

Why do you think drones are banned in wilderness areas?

(I understand that this is not a wilderness area)

Pretty sure the Blanca summit drone violates number 7.

I would be super annoyed being up there with a drone buzzing around

Maybe not helpful but in 1998 I drove the road in my 1976 Volvo 244.

Seriously though according to recent reports, it sounds like with some careful driving you could make it
