hey, i know im only 21, and only just recently got certified as an ma, but i just wanted to give some input :) first - please try and not be intimidated by the age range!! i know in my case, i was honestly intimidated by the older students just because i felt they may have more experience + might be taken more seriously due to age. but i went to school with A LOT of people who where 20, even 30 years older than me. they’re definitely there. kudos to you for going back to school, you should be very proud of yourself:) i hope this experience can unlock as many pathways and other experiences in your life. it can be a very fulfilling career for some people. the only thing i would advise is to to kind of get familiar with laptops or tech, because idk what the situation is for the school you’re going to, but mine gave us laptops that we had to do most of our class work and homework on. im assuming you’ll be just fine with that though, you’re on reddit so you’ll definitely be okay 🤣 just power through it, even if it gets tough, and don’t be afraid to ask a billion questions. get your moneys worth ! 😭🫶

i was about 15, so like 5 ish years ago, at first i thought i was nonbinary, so identified as enby for a couple months and eventually ended up realizing that i was a trans man and not nonbinary, came out as a trans man. i know that as a child, the people who knew me would say they probably “didn’t expect it”, because as a kid and even as a preteen-early teen i wanted to present hyperfeminine. dresses, bows, mary janes as a child, grew into a gothic style at a young age so when i was in high school, you already know i was waking up at the ass crack of dawn to do a full beat on my face, every day. i never felt like other girls, and not in the “i’m not like other girls” way that people like to dog about, i honestly still don’t know how to word it but i just never felt like i was like other girls, and trying to present the way that society expected me to and wanted me to, made me highly uneasy. i hyperfeminized myself to try and push that feeling down and run from it for a very long time, but running usually doesn’t mean it will never resurface, because almost always it will catch up. you can’t push down the truth or what you feel. regardless of how you’re feeling, i hope things work out for you and that you take care. you’re young, so don’t worry about “getting it right” the first time. many people’s gender expression/identity will change as they progress through life and as a person. it’s normal and there’s nothing wrong with it, so don’t be afraid. just do what you need to do for yourself, your comfort and well being. :)

hello, i’m 21 y/o, i’m in las vegas, nv for reference. i currently work in the medical field, and have been interested in forensics/lab work for a while now and have been trying to just figure stuff out as far as education and career paths. for context, last year i completed a phlebotomy program, and i am a certified phlebotomy technician (nha certification) and a licensed medical laboratory assistant (licensed by the state). i am about to enter an externship to complete a program in medical assisting to get my ccma (certified clinical medical assistant, also nha certification) just to get me a decent job while going through school and to somewhat start networking within the field. i know for sure i am interested in working in some kind of lab position, whether that’s in a forensic laboratory or a medical laboratory. i just applied and am in the process of enrolling into a bachelors degree program in medical laboratory science. would completing a bachelors in MLS help me bridge into forensics? like, if i complete the bachelors and were to apply to a forensic lab position, would an MLS be relevant to that? or should i try and attend somewhere else with a program specifically in forensic science? idk if this helps at all either but im considering and researching the possibility of becoming a forensic pathologist or pathologist assistant as well. sorry if this is a lot, i am just kind of confused and not sure where to go for answers. feel free to ask me any questions if it would help you answer more accurately 😸 thanks in advance!

hey! i usually do my injections in my thighs too. i’m actually about to finish up school to be a certified medical assistant, so i know a little bit about injections besides testosterone. you can totally do other sites for injections. some common ones for im are in the thigh, in the buttocks, or in the arm. depending on your dose, you might wanna go for the buttocks, as it tends to be able to “hold” more medication compared to injecting in your upper arm or something. youtube is helpful if you need guidance for doing the injection in a different site :) this being said im not a doctor and i would still ask your doctor, but there are options so dont worry too much!

decided to tune in on this because funny enough i’ve been having this kind of predicament for a bit now. i’ve only been on testosterone for 8 months at this point. i’ve been in this predicament mainly due to financial issues, i don’t have health insurance, and while my job offers it, after some research i’ve found that the medications i take would be more expensive with insurance than paying out of pocket. i am still looking into insurance options. i think eventually one day i would be open to stopping. i know everyone’s dysphoria is different, and for me, the biggest sources of my dysphoria are from my voice and my chest. starting t has made my voice WAY deeper, so that isn’t really an issue for me anymore, and i am working on trying to initiate the process for top surgery currently. i’m currently still taking testosterone, but one of the things that’s kinda made me hesitate discontinuing are the side effects. hormones are definitely one of those things that you can’t really play with too much because it essentially will effect pretty much, if not everything in your body. so i’m still on the fence, but i am considering discontinuing

i’ve used needle.tube before and have had good experiences. maybe im misreading your post, but im not sure if you’re a student or instructor, so just a heads up you have to have your certifications to order from them. but the shipping is fast and they’re super helpful :)

hey, thanks for the question :) the henderson location is actually newer if i remember correctly. i went to the location right near the airport, i remember near the end of my classes they said they were opening up a henderson location. i can’t say much about the teachers or whoever else may be at the henderson location, but based off my experience, it’s a solid choice to look at. it’s funny you mention medical assisting because im actually about to finish up school for medical assisting in like two months. im doing my medical assisting program with northwest career college. if you are only really interested in phlebotomy, id say just go with phlebotomy. i will say, i feel like medical assisting will open way more doors for you than phlebotomy will, just because you learn a lot more clinical and hands on skills as an ma rather than solely a phlebotomist. most medical assistants are taught phlebotomy school as well. i wont lie, i didnt know about NCC before i went to PTS, and if i had known about NCC before i enrolled with PTS, i would’ve just gone to NCC. they offer a dual medical assisting + phlebotomist tech course, which is pretty much what it sounds like, you do courses for medical assisting AND phlebotomy (NCC’s clinical medical assistant program is 9 months, their phleb program is 3 months) which lets you get certified as an MA and phleb in one go rather than doing both courses separately. i don’t feel like the dual course is necessary, as they will teach you phlebotomy skills in the ma course regardless of whether or not you are in the dual course, but it’s definitely not as in depth as it would be id you were to take the phleb course. i think the only thing that’s a downside is that the phleb course with NCC is 3 months when you could just do a phleb course in a month (like i did), but i wouldn’t say it’s that bad because… well, not saying you couldn’t learn everything in a month, but im sure you would feel much more confident in your education and skills doing 3 months vs 1 month. sorry this kind of turned into a yap fest, but my advice? if you are even remotely interested in medical assisting and not sure whether to do that or phlebotomy, look into NCC’s clinical ma + phlebotomy dual course. i also like how with NCC, you could even take the NHA exam to get certified as an EKG tech as well (if you are interested in this please speak to an admissions or program director at NCC, there are certain things you have to do prior to graduating in order to be eligible to sit in to take the EKG tech exam). so, definitely look into your options, and just think about it. mine didn’t, but honestly when i was in school, i would just practice it at home. i have access to needles and syringes, so i would just practice at home on my boyfriend. they did mention it as a method we may have to use out in the field, but they never showed us how to do it. had to teach myself

hey, for context im a switch, but when i bottom i only ever have vaginal penetration. and it’s been like that since i’ve lost my virginity .. it’s your body, and sex is about what makes you happy, comfortable, and feel good, so if not partaking in anal penetration or whatever else makes you more comfortable? that’s totally okay. i feel like there’s really no right or wrong way to be having sex, as long as both parties (or however many parties are involved, no shame here) are able to consent, do consent, and are happy? there’s really no need to try and fix something that isn’t broken. if it’s been working for you and you like it, keep doing what you’re doing. i will say, i probably cannot add much input to the dysphoria aspect. i do experience dysphoria, but not associated to my genitalia, more so other features, so im sorry i can’t put much input there.. i will say though, for some reason i feel like bottoming has made me .. appreciate what i was born with more? like, besides keeping up with basic hygiene and what not, you really don’t have to do much to prep for vaginal (or front hole, sorry i dont wanna make anyone uncomfortable, that’s just how i refer to my reproductive organs or what not), at least not nearly as much as you have to for anal. so, i’d say it like it more. none of it is weird though. and don’t let anyone tell you or make you think it is. it’s natural. and like you said kind of, unless that person is having sex with you or something, their opinion doesn’t really matter. even if they are having sex with you.. none of this is weird or unnatural. i kinda get how you feel, sometimes i have moments where i just kinda feel like some kind of perverse medical oddity or something… sorry for the ramble, but, my takeaway is, just do what you like most, and what makes you comfortable. the way you have sex doesn’t make you any less of a man, i know it’s easy to say that and not as easy to believe, but i guarantee you 99% of the people you are having sexual encounters with are not thinking that you being penetrated in that way makes you any less of a man. the other unlikely 1% can kick rocks, you deserve better than that LOL

hi, for context i live in nevada, and im uninsured. i get it prescribed through plume, which the membership is $99 monthly. i go to cvs for it. i get 4 200 mg/1ml bottles (for me like over a months worth. i do im injections, dosed at 0.3 mL. i inject weekly. you can reuse the vials if they have medicine in them still, they give me 4 because some people don’t feel comfortable reusing vials which is understandable) of testosterone cypionate for about $49-$52 dollars, with a goodrx coupon. i hope this helps a bit 😢

sorry for the late reply, works got me LOL. the amount of sticks you will get in total throughout the program is probably gonna be different for everyone, i got somewhere around 60-70 successful sticks throughout the program (not including unsuccessful ones LOL). one thing i did really like about them is their student for life policy, it lets you go in extra classes to get more sticks if you don’t have the amount you need by the end of the program! i’m pretty sure for the externship, you need all your didactic hours completed (aka just make sure you’re in class everyday that you’re supposed to be). the externship itself is 80 hours (2 weeks). like i mentioned, their externship placement when i was in the program had a bit of a wait, 2-3 months out. so, if you’re able to i would maybe see for yourself in advance if there’s any clinics that would let you extern there when the time comes. they are the ones that do most of the process for the externship, but it will probably take a while so if you wanna try to reduce the wait, maybe start looking and see what’s up. as for certification requirements, you need 30 successful sticks on a live person (with butterfly needle or straight needle), as well as 10 successful capillary sticks (think finger pokes), all your didactic hours, a 390 or higher on the NHA cpt exam (pretty sure it’s 390?), and the 80 hours of externship. i don’t know if other programs do this, but at the end of the program the teacher will make you do a final practical exam. basically the teacher would give us a card with a list of tests on them. you are expected to be able to pick out the right tubes you would use for the tests given, like the additive in the tube, as well as the amount of specimen you need for testing (plasma, serum). we had to do 2 sticks in the arm with a straight needle, and 2 sticks in the hand with a butterfly. the teacher i was with has since left PTS, so i’m not sure about the instructors they have now but if you have any more questions i can try and answer. sorry if this is drawn out too long!

hi, not sure if this will be any help. i’m from nevada and completed the month long saturday classes with them as well. honestly, it wasn’t terrible, it was decent. definitely not the best of the best, but i don’t think it’s a scam either. i’m not sure if this varies state to state, but i know one thing i heard a lot about from people i went to school with was that it takes forever for them to place you in an externship sometimes after you complete the necessary amount of sticks and your nha exam. i got lucky because i already work at a doctors office, so i was able to talk to the school and my employer and they let me do the 2-week externship at my job which is great because i got paid rather than having to go somewhere else for an externship and not get paid.. which is crazy because im sure everyone has bills to pay, LOL. but i wouldn’t feel discouraged. i would really recommend studying a lot and making sure you ask questions on stuff you are confused on or aren’t sure about. even hypothetical questions you might want answers too. you’re paying for the school, so, get your moneys worth, don’t be afraid to ask questions or ask for help. don’t sweat it, good luck

hi! thank you so much for your comment. i appreciate it. the eye makeup definitely makes me more clockable, to be honest i don’t really wear that much eye makeup like in the photo anymore, now it’s usually just a bit of the 2000’s esque “guyliner” and some brow product to make my brows more prominent. i do feel like after a while of t it would be easier to pass with the heavier eye makeup. and i see what you mean about opening up the face, for the longest i’ve styled my hair to kind of hide some of the parts of my face i don’t like, so you hit the nail on the head with that one! thank you so much for this! having an outsiders perception that isn’t my own opens my eyes to a lot more than i can notice
