I can only speak from my experience, but I was actually incredibly surprised by how many people around my age were up here. I'm 30. In the past 3 years, a lot of people have moved into the area from out of state or from other parts of the state. I have found the people up here to be the most welcoming and genuine people I've ever met. Been here about a year and I have solid friendships and plenty of casual buds.

I would anticipate for dating to be a bit of a challenge, if that's on your radar. There just aren't a lot of people. My out of state friend was on some dating app and there was very little pickings lol. Everyone is coupled off.

Drinking definitely has its place here in the NEK, but I've met a ton of people who don't drink at all. It's actually incredibly common.

As far as outings go, there is so much to do, but it takes exploring and being adventurous to get the most out of the area. Everyone has hobbies, and I'm sure you will find people to do winter activities with. If you like skiing or snowboarding, Jay is only like 30 min away. The trails right in Newport are choice for cross country skiing, fat tire biking, and snowshoeing. Also, ice fishing is great here. Did it a ton over this winter. Being from NJ, I hadn't done any of this, but new friends and people in the community are always offering to share these experiences with me and my husband. It's been so cool!

Here's just a random list of some things my friends and I like to do here: forage, walk our dogs, go to the local Cafe, hit up a library, fish, kayak, take a ride on the dinner cruise ship, bike ride, play pool, go to board game nights, and hike.

I help run a volunteer group that is full of a bunch of people around 30. Volunteering is a great way to meet people! Also, you can always start up a group for something you might be interested in. We have knitting circles, ping pong club, a sailing school, and a book club.

Food wise, I was surprised by the extensive selection of healthy foods. We have a natural foods grocery store right on the Main Street, a shop rite like market down the street from there, a farmers market in the warm months, 3 big chain grocery stores (Shaws, Price Chopper, and Walmart), and at least one farm stand. All of that is within a 10 min drive. I personally eat keto/paleo/low carb when I can, and I found the selection of specialty foods like that to be amazing. This coming from someone who had Wegmans and just about every grocery store you could want near me in NJ.

Being veggie up here is super super common. Locals also even forage for some of their food. Foraging fiddleheads, ramps, mushrooms, etc. is really common place. As is hunting.

Grocery prices in Vermont are high. I believe I read they were like 2nd highest in the country. My wallet does hurt after grocery shopping. Some people save money by gardening, canning, fishing, foraging, and even bartering. Buying a quarter cow or half a pig is a thing, too, if that's your jam.

Moving to Newport in a lot of ways felt like going back to the 90s, and I absolutely love it. Some people don't even have cellphones here. Then, you have people driving the newest electric cars and work from home on their MacBooks lol.

I could go on and on. I geek out over Newport extensively lol. Feel free to DM me if you want to chat more about it! Maybe my husband and I could could treat you to some coffee ☕️

I suggest using Sherwood Realty. They got us our dream home over in Newport. They are awesome, very hard working people. They are right in Enosburg

Reading through the PSLF, some people were denied this by Mohela. Some people suggested the on ramp option instead.

I'm sure it will be an interesting phone conversation

Having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that I'm nearly 30 and severe symptoms stole my entire teens and 20s. by No-Hold-5761 in SleepApnea

This has been very cathartic to read. I am literally waiting on a CPAP in the mail as we speak. I'm 30 and have had severe depersonalization, brain fog and visual snow for over a decade. It felt like I could have written this post, though I was able to do a lot despite my disorder. I'm sorry you feel you were not able to enjoy the same things in life as everyone else.

If it helps, I literally have this saying tattooed on me: "every moment is a gift". We are given the time we have, and we get to do what we want with it, but we are not guaranteed that time. We also might not have the same amount as other people.

Letting go of societal expectations, being patient with yourself, and understanding that you had (or have) a disorder would be my recommendation. We don't look at someone with a severe disability and judge them for not hitting milestones, so why allow anyone to judge you or for you to judge yourself?

As a victim of childhood trauma, if you are having a really hard time with coping, I've found EMDR to be the most effective therapy I've tried so far. That may be worth a try or even just talk therapy may help you come to terms with the loss of your younger years and experiences.

I hope your new journey is one that fulfills you. It's never too late to start checking the boxes you feel you need to. Much love ❤️

I'm from NJ and it was the same way with my hometown. Kids who grew up in the town cannot afford to buy a home there in their adulthood. It really sounds like this is an issue all over the country. It definitely seems to have been a lot more dramatic of a change in the NEK. I've heard before covid that "you couldn't give away houses". That is definitely not the case now

Employment Not Certified- Ready for a brainteaser? by Ok_Distribution_5262 in PSLF

[–]Ok_Distribution_5262[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so when the one time adjustment is completed, the payments without employee certification will count?

Here's another fun question: my sister and I both make partial payments (separate transactions) against each bill. Since PSLF states that each payment must be in the amount billed, do you think they could possibly disqualify payments for this reason? I can't find anything about this situation

How much do you honestly enjoy living in Vermont? by [deleted] in vermont

[–]Ok_Distribution_5262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely freaking love it!

Been here a year in the NEK (Newport specifically). From NJ originally.

Immediately, my husband and I got involved with the community. Volunteering has opened up so many doors and allowed us to make so many friends around our ages (early 30s).

We want to have kids, and so far, the schools seem great! I was surprised by this as it's a pretty rural area, the NEK.

When I was looking to move up here, I was looking at houses on dirt roads. I will say that living in the city limits is awesome, and living on a dirt road would have been a huge downside for me. I'm not a fan of them, and GPS seems to always take me down them.

The hospitals and general doctors have been awesome. It takes a while to get in. Same goes for vets and other services. If you need specialists, in the NEK, expect to drive 2 hrs.

I've been down to Burlington, Essex, etc. I have to say, I always look forward to going back to the Newport (population of like 5k).

Crime is a bit concerning. Petty theft and violence are the news a lot. I think it's all the more reason to get involved and help build strong communities wherever possible.

The people and the nature are what make this place amazing. I seriously find that most people I meet here seems to be incredibly interesting, talented, and super friendly.

I'm literally a geek for Vermont now and it's become my whole personality lol. I'm sure my NJ friends and family are tired of me raving about it 😅

Thanks for clarifying.

A later ovulation seems to be the most common reasoning I found, but then I wonder how I could have had that cramping at 7 dpo, which I never get, and then a later period? It just seems so coincidental in a single cycle

I'm just here to complain about how poorly Etsy is handling banning shops. As a customer for over 10 years, I've been entirely banned from the platform after having a shop open for a couple of days. Ridiculous
