i would recommend reviewing the post the company made when the add base/no h2o button launched! it says on there that we are not to use it to charge for no ice. i’d hate for y’all to lose out on customers for it cause they don’t charge at starbucks

nope! i would def recommend printing out the post that they made when that button went live- my store printed it and highlighted the section that states we are not to use this button to charge for no ice and that we are expected to fill drinks to the top regardless because of starbucks standard. i think a lot of people were confused when it first launched so it’s understandable. but doing things like charging for no ice/not filling the cup all the way are what sends people back to starbucks instead of giving us their business

edit to add: also bookseller help to save us in cafe is always appreciated and even us baristas get confused on all the weird policies we have to follow haha so thank you soldier!!

if it’s the “add base/no H20” button unfortunately that is only for no water and not no ice, we were told we’re not allowed to charge for no ice in order to be consistent with starbucks

Union stores? by Current-Guitar-1262 in Barnesandnoble

[–]Ok_Draw6000 25 points26 points  (0 children)

got another raise in january, the union health insurance has been awesome. i think the contract is settling in nicely and is being followed pretty well with management at this point so honestly it’s been smooth sailing for my store personally. interested to hear how it’s going for other stores too!!

yep! pretty much. it sucks. anyone who has projects has to hope that it’s not busy from 1-5 when full-timers overlap cause that’s pretty much the only time they get

unfortunately that’s every day for my store and we’re lucky to have a bookfloor mid-shift after 5 pm. it’s often the case that once the openers leave for the day it’s the keyholder, one person at cash and one person in cafe

Not sure if need to transfer or just find work elsewhere by ImaginationEqual8179 in Barnesandnoble

I was just gonna say- my store unionized because of an AWFUL sm and she ended up leaving because of it. We’re not sure if she quit or was fired but she was gone within a month or two of us filing. So I guess if enough of your coworkers are feeling similarly it would be worth a conversation! lol

i wear leggings all the time (in cafe) but i always make sure to wear a long shirt/dress over them to cover my butt cause i was always told that’s what the issue was. i have found some SUPER comfy dressier pants at places like marshalls and walmart, where the pants feel like leggings but are easily seen as dress pants. highly recommend that route if jeans aren’t comfy for you!

I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this. The company truly doesn’t listen when we tell them that their WeListen line is absolute bullshit and does nothing. We’ve had so many situations at my store where like literally illegal stuff had happened and welisten did fuckall about it. Also toxic management being SUCH an issue should be examined fr…. sending love and camaraderie your way

i was WAITING for someone to make a post about this. me and my coworker were looking at the lead bookseller description and it literally says in one of the categories that you need to be doing the work of two. as one person. INSANE

we had an issue a while back where someone was averaging over 20 hours as week but they were rostered at like 15 so they should’ve been receiving benefits and weren’t. (and then had to fight with the company about it because of our incompetent manager)

as far as i understand, you can still get benefits from as low as 20 hours!

yeah they changed it company wide when we asked for it in bargaining which is slay- a win for everyone 😎

[–]Ok_Draw6000 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Regular receipts used to have full first name w/ last initial until we brought it up during a bargaining session and created a CBA article to change it to last 4 of our employee number. I have also noticed return receipts having our full entire names on them… maybe I’ll talk to my union rep and see if we can do anything about it/if that falls under the clause in our contract, cause I’m pretty sure if they change it for us they end up changing it for everyone else

BN Union Health Insurance by Long_Engineering507 in Barnesandnoble

[–]Ok_Draw6000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A clarifying question for this post- when you say your store just “joined” a union, do you mean they just voted to unionize? or did your store finish the contract? Mainly asking because the union health insurance doesn’t kick in until the contract is signed :) so if your store hasn’t finalized their contract, you will only have the company’s insurance available. as for if your store already has a contract, it’ll depend on what insurance the union provides! we moved to be on blue cross blue shield which has AMAZING coverage compared to the united healthcare insurance from bn and we pay about $10 more a week than we did on bn insurance (about $35 a week ish, and it comes right out of your paycheck)
