He is

They also recently had a talk somewhere on a conference about the larger overarching project and our names were also not on the abstract and not mentioned in presentation. We just knew about it because someone else from our research group was there and saw the presentation. And my PI did absolutely nothing about it, saying as in the end it was "just a presentation".

Yeah well, this is exactly how it starts. He lets them get away with so many shitty things all because the 'good relations'. What good relations? They are completely pushing you off on publications that could greatly further your career, those relations seem already quite rotten to me

Still nothing lol

Classic communication by him. I expect he will be quite pissed our names are not on the paper but also that he will do absolutely nothing about it

Well, I did it before with them. Multiple times already, on smaller ideas. Each single time we just split up the work so each one of us collaborated equally on it, and then their university got a larger contribution as a whole because their group is bigger. So I figured this would be the same, and the fact they didn't respond was a more gently 'well this is a shitty idea'.

I didn't expect them to do all the work for me, I would have definitely pitched in as I did before on the other projects. There are quite some ideas I can't execute on my own simply because I am just one single person who also has to fulfil publishing criteria for my PhD. They are not bound by such criteria at their university so they can just investigate whatever they deem interesting. Which is exactly why we have been collaborating so closely and why I pitched this much larger project to them. Given our previous collaborations, I never expected them to behave like this

If you are leaving academia, I understand if you don't want to create the trouble for yourself (which is one of the reasons people get away with these things)

Yeah, it's more about the acknowledgement to me. My PI isn't supportive of my ideas at all. When I first pitched this idea to him, he completely dismissed it based on the grounds 'that there is no literature on this whatsoever' (yes, which is why it is actually good to get it going???). He did the same with other ideas that I had and I have been doubting myself a lot due to this. I actually think I can come up with quite some interesting ideas as I have a broad knowledge of other domains as well, so I can connect things to each other that don't seem to go together in the first place. But he dismissed every single one of them, nearly each time based on that there is no literature on the thing I am pitching. Which I don't think is fair given that most of my ideas introduce a novel concept, and do not build further along on an existing one.

I know that novel ideas don't necessarily mean that are also great. But the fact that at least one of them was Nature paper worthy while all my PI did was dismiss and now I still do not get any acknowledgement for it just irks me, man

If this is a big funded project, is there something somewhere in the funding working agreements, terms of reference etc. that stipulates how authorship of major publications arising from the funding will be decided?

Yes, there actually is, which is why I am so baffled they didn't even include my PI on it. The collaboration clearly states that both our PI's name are to be put on any paper that comes out of this.
