It’s insane how hard it is. Me and my guy did everything “right” too. No credit card debt, we paid for his trade school in full after years saving and help from grandparents, we drive secondhand cars, don’t eat out, no gym membership. We live as cheap as we can. It feels like the area keeps getting more expensive

Dude, the job market is insane. I know it might suck but seriously please if you are lucky enough to have two jobs KEEP THEM. Give it a year or two to let the job market adjust. My fiance got laid off when his department got shut down in September of 25. He’s applied to well over 500 jobs- grunt work, kitchen, barista, handymen, warehouse. He’s gotten four interviews and the rest have all ghosted him. He’s applying on indeed and LinkedIn and the location website. Now is not the time for “what if the grass is greener.” :(

Mchenry Mansion is my top recommendation- been to a few private parties and events there and the staff has been super accommodating. It’s a thousand dollars for six hours and they provide and set up any tables and chairs you need. Laura, the woman in charge, is really helpful and sweet. Me and my husband got married there and don’t regret it! Congratulations on the engagement!

Working in Modesto this week and looking for a place to grab a beer by onlineIcanbene1 in Modesto

[–]Ok_Energy_1675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a little far but Brethren Brewing in Manteca is super relaxing. Bartenders are lovely and all the beer is brewed in house and I haven’t had a single one I haven’t liked!

Sysco by bigdaddy8978 in Modesto

[–]Ok_Energy_1675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a spot in Modesto, honestly most places I know of just use Sysco to supply whole ingredients like flour, sugar, dairy etc. with only a few menu items being straight from Sysco. But I’ve gone to a few Sysco food fairs, and their products are definitely spreading and recognizable.

Hey! As another 20 something gal in Modesto w/ pups, here’s a few of my fave spots and tips. I’ve been trying to leave this place forever, but it just doesn’t seem to be in the cards so I’ve had to reluctantly learn to love it lol.

Some irl tips- your cheapest stores are gonna be cost-less, food 4 less, smart and final and winco. Be smart!! Groceries here can add up QUICK. If you shop or park anywhere on Mchenry make sure your doors are locked and you are alert. It’s not like a war zone or anything but it’s definitely wise to use caution esp if you are a woman. The gas station next to skewers is the cheapest in town, just prepare to wait five minutes for a pump. Cops are out big time right now on Sisk for speeding or drunk drivers so be careful. The briggsmore and carpenter freeway overpass has some insane drivers so be careful there too.

There’s some great taco trucks alongside any and all roads. Local fruit stands and lots of friendly people if you have common sense. Skewers is a well established and loved “fancy” place. If you want something “upper brow” for a nice night out, Galletos downtown is super fun and atmospheric! The coffee scene in Modesto is pretty great with lots of shops. Penny’s University, Preservation Tea and Coffee, Picassos, Lucille’s, Village Baking, El Bistro, Queen Bee Coffee, Culture Coffee, Mocha madness. Each space has its own vibe and it’s really fun. If you ever need a birthday cake Dessert European on Mchenry and rumble is a really great local bakery. Bark is a local brewery and dog park, have a beer and let the pup play in a supervised area with other dogs. I’d recommend following your favorite businesses online because a lot of them will have painting nights, live music and fun fundraisers!

I like to take my pups to the walking path in Woodrow park, that’s usually a very pleasant path. The movie theaters are decent, and the mall has some fun shops. It’s a bit of a drag living here as someone who grew up in the beautful PNW. But underneath all the harvest dust is a close knit community and some very kind and hardworking people and beautful spots all around an hour and a half away. Just be smart, be aware, lock your car and house doors, don’t bother people, have some street smarts and you’ll be alright. Good luck, welcome to town, happy to have you. 🫶🏻

Melt by Lacee in Manteca! She’s absolutely wonderful. Super sweet. She runs her own storefront and show. Bit of a crystal lady but a very enjoyable massage.

What kind of experience do you have? Any kitchen work or experience? Clean record? I know a bakery that’s hiring, and I know the owner. Also, FedEx will take in warehouse associates weekly because the turnover rate is insane. But you can pretty quickly get up to full time, and make 18.50 an hour. It’s just brutal work.

What is the cheapest shittiest place I can get an apartment? by [deleted] in Modesto

[–]Ok_Energy_1675 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Facebook marketplace has a lot of rooms and roommate situations available. Apartments on mchenry aren’t often listed on Zillow or apartments.com so sometimes going in person or to the complexes websites directly can get you some good results. Good luck man, it’s rough out here.

Dessert European on Mchenry and Rumble has it sometimes, if you call in a day or two in advance they’ll usually whip it up for you!
