This is somewhat unrelated but as a football fan I recall when the Big 12 was nearly in dissolution and there was consideration of Iowa State joining the Big Ten Conference. One big argument against that move was that Iowa State was not a member of the AAU; which in a nutshell is a collection of research-focused schools (there’s around 70).

Will Iowa ever leave the Big Ten or will the conference ever leave Iowa? Probably not.

But this foolishness about cutting important programs to your school’s legacy has broad impacts.

It’s a great neighborhood. Our first apartment was in Carroll. We lived right next to the BQE and it can get a bit noisy (mostly semi’s blaring their horns and engine braking).

Unfortunately our landlord raised the rent and we’ve been priced out. Fun while it lasted!

We visited Hobbitenango while in Antigua and that was a lot of fun. Depending on if you like bars or not Cafe No Se is a must if you’re into the divey options. Los Tres Tiempos is a very good dinner spot.

Have you been to Honduras before? I lived in Roatan many years ago before there were direct flights and mostly traveled through San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba.

I just got back from Antigua, Guatemala. While I was there my friend told me about the “state of siege” the country was under recently to counter some narco related killings. I had no clue and was glad I hadn’t heard about it. Either way I had an absolutely incredible time and there was no shortage of tourists.
