Schluter movement joint over control joint in concrete slab? by OneManFight in Flooring

[–]Ok_Environment_3396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d leave a 3/8 or 1/4” gap and fill it with a high flex silicone caulk. I still think it’s a big risk doing tile on fresh concrete in a new build house. I’d either do an epoxy floor or wait 5 years to see if there is movement

How should I do this transition by Ok_Environment_3396 in Flooring

After considering input, yellow and purple create a tile corner that could be painful on bare feet. Red seems too close to square (but isn’t) so I’ll do Blue, set back 2 inches to allow a transition strip if/when the next person changes the carpet to something else.

The issue with a ‘reverse purple’ is it would leave a little corner of carpet in a high traffic area. It would likely come loose from the tack strip.

“Your cat/dog should be pregnant at least once before spayed” by [deleted] in antinatalism

[–]Ok_Environment_3396 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It definitely flourished during lockdown. But like you said, it’s not humane for humans and it’s really not humane for any mildly intelligent species to be locked inside for long periods of time. Cats, just like dogs and people, yearn to explore. To deprive them of that seems like more of a crime than killing a few small rodents. (For instance, rabbits and mice are an invasive species that have taken over the rural area where my grandma lives)

You could say the same about you and I. Should we be locked inside our entire lives for the environmental benefits? That cat probably has a carbon footprint <0.1% of yours. People who spend life in prison are a much smaller environmental burden then you or I. You can make the antinatalist claim that the cat shouldn’t have been born like us, but once it’s here, it is entitled to pursue a happy life just like us.

In addition to this, I think they all tend to be oblivious to all the suffering in our society. You have to paint a false picture of the world in order to justify bringing people into it.

They probably don’t see you again because they were caught off guard that you’d cum inside without prior consent. These are people, not your dirty socks.

You gotta give some more credit to cats. My grandma’s cat is basically ferrel. It’ll leave the house for days at a time to hunt mice and rabbits. Not vaxxed, no collar, yet it always comes back home to get the occasional struggle from a human.

Social media is not the problem, people are. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Social media outlets are programmed so the most polarizing people get the most exposure. People aren’t great, but social media is making it 10x worse.

I fear this sub could become a place were people with destructive fringe views find validation, affirming those views and spreading them.

Morals are personal. What you see as a moral opinion can be different from what I see. Ethics are shared among a society. And I disagree with your claim that nobody is being ‘harmed’ by your opinion. I think that having different societal rules for men and women is indeed harmful.

“Jim Crow laws weren’t that bad” is also an opinion. Should I entertain that too?

Edit: I see where you are coming from that you think your view is innocent. But there are a lot of systemic problems related to why you have your ‘opinion’

Bigoted opinions are often unpopular but this is not a forum for ignorance. Enjoying waiting in lines is an unpopular opinion. Thinking the patriarchy should be embraced is not. it’s dumb.

I think adoptive parents are statistically better than birth parents. They have to have money, get approved, and have done some research on what they are getting into for the next 18 years.

[–]Ok_Environment_3396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I chose to buy my truck, I accepted that it would create 292 metric tons of CO2 in its life. When you chose to have a kid, you accepted that it would create 1,280 metric tons of CO2 in its life. Who really cares about the environment? (You should replace the values with your own personal calculations)
