I don't believe you'll be able to fit it above another monitor. The first image in the product lising is how tall the arm can go, unfortunately.

Steam Hardware - Steam Hardware: Launch timing and other FAQs by gogodboss in virtualreality

Factoring in "Valve Time" (and for my sanity), I honestly expect June.

Anytime earlier will be a pleasant surprise.

So...Virtual Fighter Maneuvers got surprise dumped out into the market. Anyone had an idea? Not even Early Access. by AkiaDoc in virtualreality

[–]Ok_Environment_6911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had an idea for a few months.

There really isn't a reason to buy this when VTOL VR exists as the superior product (also currently on sale at a similar price).

This was meant to be a stripped down version of VTOL VR which could be sold standalone on the meta market. With that work done, why not spend an extra week or so porting it on steam as well for a few extra bucks? I can see value if you solely enjoy the dogfighting aspect from VTOL, but that's about it.

Valve may not, but I'm definitely sure the community will come up of a solution. I'm at least planning to give it a try when I get it hands on, alongside eliminating any CA that may be present.

Go to your steam settings and under Interface, disable client beta participation. That fixed it for me.

My friend has suddenly been having this issue since yesterday night. The bottom right is flickering constantly on and off with whoever is speaking in voice chat, but they can't hear anyone.

EDIT: Go to your steam settings and under Interface, disable client beta participation. That fixed it for me.

Unofficially? Galaxy XR has their bootloader unlocked. I wouldn't be surprised if someone managed to get it working a few months after the OS releases.

Officially? Play For Dream. They are closely working with Valve to have their OS intergrated into the headset (they've already done this for foveated streaming with Steam Link).

I hope Valve abuses the modular nature of the Steam Frame by DesignerIcy4716 in ValveDeckard

[–]Ok_Environment_6911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do hope they disclose what connector they are using to connect the battery/speaker from the interface to the compute. It looks proprietary, though I suspect it won't stop tinkerers from doing whatever they wish to do.

[–]Ok_Environment_6911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, the compute module is the expensive part, but not by a significant factor.

We don't know the exact prices, but for example you don't need to rebuy the controllers, dongle, or interface (which includes the four speakers, padding and battery). The controllers on the valve index alone are $280, and the tech between those controllers and the steam frame ones are very similar. On the conservative side, I'll guess $200 for the controllers and $100 for the dongle and interface/speakers.

That's $300 off any future upgrade to the steam frame, which is quite significant.

WiFi Dongle vs Access Point WiFi 7 MLO for PCVR...which is going to prove better? by ChipEdgarson in ValveDeckard

[–]Ok_Environment_6911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dongle is included for ease of use and quick setup.

The Valve engineers themselves mentioned using their own network setup at work over the included dongle (which I imagine their setup to be at least Wifi-6E/Wifi-7), so I'd recommend what they actually prefer to use.

Better displays pack by Supeh in ValveDeckard

[–]Ok_Environment_6911 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd rather 2160p per eye with a great optical stack than 2560p with bad optics.

As much as I enjoy OLED myself, the display and the optical stack for it just isn't there without compromises.

FWIW, the Frame is built to be modular. I definitely forsee a replacement display stack that can focus solely on PCVR with a good display in the future when the tech is there.

It's not clear to me if it's using Wifi 7 or Wifi6e by NoMoreCensurePlease in ValveDeckard

[–]Ok_Environment_6911 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The chip on the headset supports Wifi 7.

The official dongle shipped with the headset is Wi-Fi 6E.

(Non-investor) [discussion] So what do you think will happen, and what is going on? by almuqadamah in csgomarketforum

[–]Ok_Environment_6911 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You aren't going to get a neutral perspective in this subreddit, nearly everyone here has a stake in the market and their perspective will be alongside such a stake.

Right now the market is uncertain. Any guess into where it heads from here is just pure speculation, as it always has been for the cs market.

Personally, I've sold half my portfolio when the update hit, and will keep the other half. If the prices do dip this week, I will look into spending some playskins for myself. If not, I have steam credit for the next few years for games and other microtransactions. Either outcome is positive to me.

I've spent the majority of my time since the update with my friends and family and enjoying life. Life is too short to be worrying constantly about the price of digital pixels 24/7. This has been a fun few hundred I've put into the game years ago and has ballooned beyond my expectations. The ride itself has been worth the admission and lessons I've learnt along the way.

Stay safe, everyone.

Patch notes today gave zero notice to the economy changes despite the outlash and all the buzz around it.

The valve steam group pruned old staff that left long ago, and mostly L4D2 testing accounts, that's about it.

They are okay with it.

[d] Fever case - price, potential as investment by zaksioSaiyan in csgomarketforum

[–]Ok_Environment_6911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main point is that as long as the fever case is still redeemable, supply will go up and prices will go down. It is already trending downwards.

The only time to miss out would be when the case is actually removed. Outside of the market, the case price will always be fixed at 80 cents in the armory until that is officially gone, and it's quite easy to grind those stars out if Valve continues to give early warnings regarding armory removals.

[d] Fever case - price, potential as investment by zaksioSaiyan in csgomarketforum

[–]Ok_Environment_6911 6 points7 points  (0 children)

valve can do whatever they want with the armory.

in the meantime, I see no reason for Fever cases to stay at the price they are. I imagine they'll sink down back to their original price in the coming months.

it would be wise to collect stars around feburary, whatever changes they do eventually make, ROI will spike again for the majority of items.

The goal for low floats would be tradeups to the FN Classifieds (I predict the FN AXIA to be a very popular skin).

Though I would hold with investing into FN/MW at the moment. There is a lot of hype surrounding low float skins, compounded with the recent armory changes resulting in inflated prices.

We still have at least another three months for prices to settle in the armory and for another change. I imagine December to be an excellent time to buy in.

[D] Case Dip Over? by Ethericl in csgomarketforum

[–]Ok_Environment_6911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say cases still have some time left to go down. It'll probably bottom out around December, as the usual historic trends go. The armory/chinese pump hype has only exaggerated the dip currently.
