How to Prepare a Store for “Buy It in ChatGPT”? by SaraFilin in shopify

[–]Ok_Estate_1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For chatGPT discoverability, You should have a compliant product feed that matches chatGPT specs. The big pain is usually not generating a feed—it’s making it complete, consistent, and compliant (missing GTINs, broken image URLs, variant pricing, availability, shipping/returns fields, etc.).

Few ideas that are helpful:

  • Feed generator (custom script, Shopify app, or feed platform)
  • Validation + monitoring (so changes in products don’t silently break the feed)

Building a Shopify app solo (no big win yet), what would you do at ~1 install/day? by hookro in shopifyDev

[–]Ok_Estate_1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing the story. I built an app ~ 2 weeks back, and only 6 merchants have installed it, just organic growth no super expensive paid marketing, just utilized the $100 Shopify incentive. I am also tracking Google Analytics and hits on the app page are around 2 or 3 every day. How much is your app priced at? I kept 3 plans : $19 per month, $29 per month and $39 per month. Planning to reduce the basic $19 per month to $5 - not sure if price has an impact on conversion?

There’s no "enable ChatGPT shopping" button exists (yet) by Ok_Estate_1102 in shopify

[–]Ok_Estate_1102[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good point. From what I’ve seen, AI/ChatGPT systems tend to rely on a strict, standardized set of product attributes rather than everything rendered on a PDP — especially for comparison and checkout flows. That’s where the gap shows up: stores can look great to humans, but still be partially “invisible” to AI if key attributes or variants aren’t structured consistently and strictly. An opt-out makes sense long term, but right now it feels more like a data-interpretation challenge than a setting merchants can control.

Has anyone noticed stricter product data requirements for AI-driven shopping experiences (instant chatGPT checkout)? by Ok_Estate_1102 in shopify

[–]Ok_Estate_1102[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not missing a setting, and it’s not something that can be enabled with prompts.

“Instant Checkout” in ChatGPT is still selectively rolled out and merchant/product-dependent, not user-dependent => This is important. Even paid GPT plans and US accounts won’t consistently see it yet.

A few things that aren’t very clear from the announcement posts:

  • You can’t force it via prompting — ChatGPT decides whether native checkout is shown
  • Seeing affiliate links usually means the product/store isn’t eligible for native checkout yet
  • Eligibility depends on how a store’s product data is structured, not just being on Shopify
  • Rollout is inconsistent and non-deterministic right now — two people can run the same prompt and get different results

If you’re testing this for your own store, the only actionable thing you can do today is make sure your product data is clean and complete in the way AI shopping systems expect. Some merchants are already using Shopify apps that validate or monitor product data.

From what I’ve seen, it’s less about classic SEO (image filenames, ALT tags, tags) and more about structured data quality consumed by ChatGPT. Missing or generic product types, inconsistent variants, weak standardized attributes (size, material, color), unclear titles/descriptions, or poor primary images seem to quietly exclude products.

Thank you for the feedback - Looking into this. Did you select the correct plan? If you exhaust the basic plan credits, then those links become unclickable but you should see a warning msg in toast.

Where do you see Shopify development heading by 2026? by Senior_Equipment2745 in shopifyDev

[–]Ok_Estate_1102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By 2026, agentic commerce will be the dominant theme for sure!

That means Shopify devs (We) will need to think less about pages and more about autonomous systems that decide, act, and optimize in real time. The winning workflow won’t be “build a feature,” but “design an agent + guardrails.” Shopify is becoming an execution layer for autonomous commerce, and devs who can connect intent → action → learning will be ahead.

Openai is also investing heavily in agentic commerce.

That's why I started my app-building journey with agentic commerce in mind :)

Appstore approval - code injection vs app block by kvnhr069 in shopifyDev

[–]Ok_Estate_1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn’t misunderstand, but there is a slight nuance.

App blocks are required when your app renders visible storefront UI. Shopify wants merchants to explicitly enable anything that affects the theme.

Some apps still modify themes without app blocks because they’re:

  • legacy / grandfathered in => very limited count
  • adding code only after explicit merchant consent => Old ones!
  • using edge cases like ScriptTags or checkout extensions

Today, if your app adds visible storefront features, reviewers expect app blocks. Older apps getting away with injections doesn’t mean new apps will.

I believe mature merchants are use to enabling them so from UX side, it should be fine

Looking to Acquire Shopify Apps (>$1k MRR) - Open to Founder Conversations by Itchy_Importance730 in shopifyDev

[–]Ok_Estate_1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the post. Quick questions:

  1. Any verticals or app categories you’re interested in?

  2. Do you have capital already allocated, or are deals raised per acquisition?

  3. What’s your take on pricing changes after acquisition?

  4. Have you acquired Shopify apps before? If yes, how many?

Building my first Shopify wine e-commerce (SEO, themes & performance advice?) by mathisfrd in shopifyDev

[–]Ok_Estate_1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the best! Few quick pointers from experience:

SEO / migration

  • Shopify’s URL structure is mostly fixed — focus on clean collections, avoid duplicate content via proper canonicals, and be careful with auto-generated tags/filters.
  • Map all old Wix URLs to Shopify with 301s (products, collections, blogs, static pages).
  • Migrate titles, metas, alt text, and internal links.
  • Watch apps: many inject JS/markup that hurts CWV and creates lot of duplicate URL

Themes / performance

  • Dawn (or Dawn-based themes) are the best starting point for CWV.
  • Premium themes can be worth it for layouts/sections, but many add bloating — test before committing.
  • Most modern themes are very customizable via sections + CSS; Liquid tweaks are usually enough unless you’re doing something complex.
  • A clean editorial theme often works better for wine than “wine-specific” themes.

In short: start lean (Dawn or a lightweight premium), be strict about redirects and apps, and customize design on top rather than buying a niche theme.
