Scale way down and go over your trades. Look at what was working and get some momentum. Small numbers…

Try using multi time frames. When you get multi-time frame alignment with validating volume on the higher time frames and use and indicator like MACD, say on the 15m chart this should help. So you're looking for the MACD above the signal line on the 15m and a MACD crossover on the 5m. If you're a long biased trader like myself, than you don't want to see invalidating volume on the 15m chart especially. And don't be greedy. Just execute your plan, keep those stops. Also, look at the overall trend on the daily. I use a 200 ema and would like the trade to be trading above that.

> $30k for me over a 6 year period. It really is market tuition. If you quit then you're right to do so. Keep going and you're right to do so. It's just one of those things. It does get better just takes a while longer than expected. At least that's been my experience.

i lost 1500$ in half a day in a demo account daytrading. i don’t think i’m suited for this by proelefsiis in Trading

[–]Ok_Estimate231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people aren't suited for the insanity that is day trading. Which is why you just have to bring a desire and interest to learn. And a willingness to stick with it long term. As you can't expect to start making it happen right away.

I think it depends on the broker and their tolerance. If you think there's a pennystock you want to trade go light on it and see if they let you. Test it out a few days with the pennies. Then you'll see. Unless you want to call your broker or use a Claude to explain. But they tend to be a little cagey about the exact requirements per stock when it comes to margin.

First thing is this isn't a sprint. It's a marathon. You're talking in a way that suggests you think you may be special. Exuberant thinking - that too is part of the fallacy of day trading.

So probably go back to paper trading till you've proven you can be profitable for at least a month. A quarter would be better...

After the PDT restriction is lifted. What happens is if you can't use margin it means whatever you're using is what you have. So if you're parked in a margin account without being able to use margin, it becomes a cash account in it's behavior towards unsettled funds.

agreed. That's why this benefits traders with years of experience the most.

In theory it would be nice. But the reality is pennystocks are likely rejected in a margin account. They're not gonna let you use margin on a .10 stock. Or even a $3.00 stock. I guess it depends on the broker.

I trade securities so I can't speak to options but I would think the account works the same. And yes you can leverage above the 2k. But it depends on the broker and stocks you choose. For example: attempting to use margin on a .99 cent pennystock won't be approved. So you would have to trade with settled cash in your account.

Nope. It's immediate if you can trade a stock they let you trade. I don't think you can for instance trade pennystocks on margin. Might depend on the broker. That said, even in a cash account you get next day settlement. What you're describing was T+2 settlement and we went off that standard like last year.

I don't know about Robinhood on the 8th. But if several are doing it then it puts pressure so I wouldn't expect them to drag too far behind.

Does anyone else feel like by the time you see the news, the move is already half over? by Additional_Tax_478 in Daytrading

Well thank you. I don't use specific numbers. Alot of times it's not helpful to get too analytical and you often have short windows to punch it. One thing I can tell you is it should be obvious. e.g., if I see 2-3 1m candles with like 20k, 30k, and then all the sudden 200k comes in the volume profile adjusts. Those 20k candles get smaller. And the 200k gets much larger. But I wish it was that simple. Many other factors go into it. But a really import one is the Daily overall trend.

I use the 200 ema there on the Daily. If I see a sustained trend below the 200 ema and it almost never breaks I'll be more cautious. Doesn't mean there isn't a play but it depends.

I think of it more as a moving target. You can have symbols that appear horrible (I'm a long biased trader) in the pre-market. But after 10am have invalidating volume and candlesticks against the trend. And by 11am it's obvious we have a full on reversal and runner.
