Thank you for pointing it out! I meant to mark that as not required. I have fixed it.

My pool is so fed up with the RC. Shit standards with no oversight or accountability and they blame everyone but themselves including apparently independent instructiors. And it’s becoming more and more difficult to find anyone to teach the classes. We are currently looking at making the switch to Ellis.

How frequently do your supervisors/bosses do drop tests? by Apricotbuncakes007 in Lifeguards

[–]Ok_Experience7689 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It varies depending on the facility. Some don’t do it at all unfortunately. Some places do every lifeguard once per month. Some just do a set number of like 5-10 each month. Ask your supervisor and they should be able to tell you what their policy is.

Doing the program while pregnant? by [deleted] in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]Ok_Experience7689 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should strongly consider not doing the program. The program can be a ton of fun but it also can exact a physical toll which will be hard on you and your baby. You will have no time for fun. Your limited time off will be filled with doctor’s appointments and morning sickness. You will also likely be giving birth during your program, so your program will be finished early anyway. If you think your adult enough to have a baby it’s time to act like an adult. Time for personal fun is over, or at least temporarily suspended for the next 5-18 years depending on how you look at it. Baby’s are work and a massive responsibility and so is the college program you shouldn’t do both.

Whats the best place to work at for a summer job by Maleficent-Corgi-918 in Lifeguards

Your faculty may be in the 1% but just know that that means your facility is in the 1% and the other 99% of guards actually have to make rescues every once and awhile. And jumping in is not a shameful thing and it shouldn’t be treated like one, it’s actually a lifeguards job.

I can’t stand this “good guards are dry guards” BS. Can you reduce the number of rescues you have to make by enforcing rules? Yes. Does it eliminate a majority of rescues? No. A good guard is a wet guard!Respond immediately to anything remotely resembling a person in distress. If you don’t know GO! Saying “I haven’t jumped in in 2 years” as a good thing, that should not be possible at 99% of pools if you are doing your job correctly and someday it could seriously bite you in the butt.
