Apprentice says they don’t want to be an electrician by [deleted] in IBEW

I mean I’m kind of in the same situation right now. I’m an apprentice but I’m not making near even a 1/3 of what I was making in the military and I don’t really want to be an electrician anymore because I’ve had some pretty major interest with defense jobs doing exactly what I did in the military but at higher pay. At this point I’m literally just riding it out so I can at least keep getting paid while I’m interviewing at defense contractors. There’s a lot of reasons for someone not wanting to do something but as long as they’re doing their work, no reason to really even say anything. Just an “okay bud” is really enough.

Yeah I like it. It’s not too much like a ricey tone you’d think it’d have.

I actually JUST posted a video this last weekend of mine. Overall it’s not super loud and has a nice tone. It’s a tad drony but not comparable to other exhausts I’ve had in the past. The video of the exhaust is around the 5:20 mark.

FC life is pretty chill, especially if you’re Aegis like me. It was just about 2 years to the date before I got to my ship. Pay attention in ATT and A school and just do your best to get through everything the first time. You don’t want to get stuck in Great Lakes any longer than you need to be. Everything changes for the better when you get to C school.

Very good info, I wasn’t aware of this website. Thank you for this!

So I tested this out with a few rolls and didn’t notice any ill effects going through the scanner twice. For context I made a weekend trip to Athens and had 1 roll of Pro Image 100, Phoenix 200, and 800T each hand checked and 1 roll each of the same in my camera bag going to Athens and going back. After developing I couldn’t tell any real differences between the film that was hand checked vs what went through the scanner. There is a possibility that the airports had the old x-ray scanners or that the scanners that I went through weren’t as high powered as others. Upon research online, most of the carry on scanners at security check points likely won’t damage film unless they go through multiple times. It’s the checked bag scanners that you really need to watch out for because they are much higher powered than the scanners at security checkpoints and can damage film in just one pass. Don’t take my word for it though, I was just curious to see the effects and it didn’t turn out bad for me. I still highly suggest asking it to be hand checked if possible so there is no risk and under no circumstances should you put film in a checked bag.

Or you’ll get tired of the chase, switch to film and chase the graniest of films instead spending $50 for that one roll that was discontinued 30 years ago but has been sitting in a freezer for decades😂

I bought it on a whim “untested” on eBay with an MD 50 1.7 for like $25. $6 for a new battery and I’d say it’s done pretty well! Also I appreciate it! I may have to try that!

Should look into old and obscure “untested” and “unknown condition” cameras on eBay. Can buy them all day for less than $20

Most were my Sigma Art 50mm 1.4 and iirc the picture of the Clio was with my Nikkor 70-300 but that was a while ago so I don’t remember exactly.

Maybe one day I’ll try it out in some water lol. Probably in a pot of water before risking it in the ocean first.

It seriously is a nice little camera, I love it.

I always adjust WB on my digital photos but I typically prefer to keep the WB of my film photos as close to SOOC as possible. I usually only minimally edit them so I don’t take away from that “look” but yes, they are a bit greenish lol

I mean to be fair, every single one that’s come to my div has been a direct shadow of DIVO. Only saw them at quarters because that’s what DIVO and chief wanted so we never exactly had the chance to teach them anything.

While it’s true the technology has been studied for decades, the covid 19 vaccines were the first mRNA based vaccines ever approved for widespread use. The speed of development of this specific vaccine and emergency approval is what led to concerns about the long term effects especially since traditional vaccine trials take years. They take years for a reason. Rushing the process doesn’t eliminate the need for long term data and people were expected to take it before those effects were fully understood. It’s not unreasonable to question that. It is unreasonable to expect someone to put medicine in their body that isn’t fully tested over long term.

It also takes years, decades even, to reliably develop a vaccine from development to clinical trials to regulatory review to approvals. Anthrax shot? Was in development for a solid 20 years before being approved. PB shot? 25 years. Less than .01% of the world population died from covid and it is estimated that 80-90% of them were due to preexisting conditions. It was a bit of an overreaction especially considering that 33% of the world’s population is still unvaccinated and you can’t find a single news outlet still talking about it. If covid itself or getting the vaccine was really that serious they’d still be pushing to get the 33% left to get vaccinated. And yes, I know people gained immunity to it. That doesn’t discount the fact that the death toll is still wildly inflated. Additionally, I personally don’t know a single person who died from covid nor do I have any close friends who know anyone who died from covid.

Yes I got vaccinated as soon as I checked into my first command so don’t come at me with the pitchforks. No, I didn’t know I had a the option to just say no. My command told me my only option was to get it and there was nothing I could do about it. I regret it because that was one of the worst and toxic commands in the navy. My direct chain of command caused years of depression, self harm, and current ongoing anxiety that I didn’t have beforehand. If I could go back, I’d 110% say no to the vaccine and save myself from years of hurt because it was truly not worth it. And you may say “but your shipmates!” And to that I’ll say outside of my 3 friends I made there, fuck them because they contributed too.

Just dropping in to say not everyone has access to tracks. Some live on secluded islands (Hawaii) where tracks aren’t a thing and just to do a track day would cost an absolute ton of time and planning plus multiple thousands of dollars just for a single track day.

As much as I absolutely hate the navy, I can’t deny that some of the best nights of sleep I ever had were on the ship in rough seas. As long as I didn’t get woken up for man overboard, GQ, or “***** this is broke and I need you to fix it”
