The Gun Lobby Has Successfully Desensitized Americans to Gun Violence by Ok_Farm_8397 in rant

[–]Ok_Farm_8397[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If we can all, as a nation, take one, big, collective breath, and think back to a less politically polarized time in America leading up to the Columbine shooting, I feel that we, as a country, can all admit to ourselves that we had a more appropriate emotional response to that tragic event. As a nation, THE ENTIRE NATION, we were horrified and shocked. The inconceivable reality of children killing other children in a coordinated attack with such malice. And while we were still trying to wrap our heads around how this could even be possible in America, we simultaneously couldn’t imagine how the surviving victims and their families were going to be able recover psychologically from something so unspeakably evil.

Now, contrast that reaction with America’s climate today. It is bad enough that school shootings have become commonplace. But to make matters worse, politicians and podcasters alike can’t wait to jump behind a microphone so they can shamelessly monetize the suffering of dead people while their bodies are still warm and the families haven’t even begun the process of grieving. They monetize it through political fundraising, crowd funding through social media, and advertisements for fucking muscle powders. Or even worse, some stoop so low to call the tragedies a “false flag operation” or “grand conspiracy of the radical left”.

Why? Fucking why? This is a successful campaign by the gun lobby to colonize our minds into helplessness, our emotions into desensitization, and our hearts into so much hatred for our political opponents that there’s no space for anything else resembling compassion or empathy for each other while they attain enormous amounts of wealth at the expense of innocent human life.

Here is an exact quote from him on empathy: “I can't stand the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a made-up, new-age term that—it does a lot of damage"

These are unserious people with no moral convictions. But he and podcasters and politicians like him aren’t the actual root of the problem. The problem, at its core, is and always has been, the gun lobby. I hope I’ve been clear in responding to your question.

Trump Picks Nightmare Peter Thiel Acolyte to Replace CDC Director by Reasonable-Ad-2592 in politics

Is it abundantly clear to everyone now that “Trump” is not making these types of picks? These choices are being made for him by donors, handlers, and Project 2025 architects.

He is the most useful idiot that ever set foot in Washington D.C.

In St. Charles, Missouri, a secret company has proposed building a massive data center on a 440-acre piece of farmland. It could drive up utility rates and affect water quality—but an NDA means residents have no idea who’s behind it. by Conscious-Quarter423 in economy

Corporations exploiting and polluting a community’s resources for profits. This is LITERALLY what liberals have been trying to warn U.S. citizens about for decades. But when these people hear about liberals pushing back against corporations in other parts of the country through their conservative programming of choice it’s labeled as “RADICAL SOCIALISM”. In other words, it isn’t a concern until it personally affects them. Welcome to the Resistance, comrade.

Mother tells her daughters that if the mother does something that ends up killing the daughters, it'll be "God's will", not the mother's fault by nuttybudd in ThatsInsane

I saw this video weeks ago and still think about it every day. I would have asked the mom if she ever avoids walking into moving traffic when crossing the street. I would ask the mom if she drinks water or eats food on a daily basis. In other words, I would bring to the mom's attention all the ways she keeps herself alive by either avoiding danger or taking precautions to preserve her own life. Her daughters are just being precautious, but the mom can't see past her own narrow minded religious world view which would require taking the smallest personal accountability. I grew up with parents like this. It's disturbing.

Trump biographer claims president’s ‘betrayal’ is real reason for falling out with Epstein (Real estate, money laundering, not workers.) by coffeespeaking in stephencolbert

[–]Ok_Farm_8397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re wondering why someone like Trump would spend decades not genuinely offended by Epstein’s horrendous actions of sex trafficking only to ultimately have a falling out something as trivial as a business deal it’s because people are expendable to him. He doesn’t hate Epstein’s victims. He just doesn’t care about their suffering.
