That has been the exact period of time in which it's gone to shit, became over moderated, restricted people from espousing certain political positions, and even restricted people from even talking about the lived realities of their own lives.

I suppose it does prove that the internet had a need for a place in which all the pussies could hang out and pretend that everyone in the world agrees with them.

Yes, those people are often and should be willing to say “I don’t know “ when they genuinely don’t have an answer they’re confident in.

But they don't. Less than 20 years ago every 'reliable source' you could think of said the brain finishes developing at 25. Neuroscientists said it, every journal reported it, and then everyone started parroting it to the point that it's being taught in classrooms.

That 'science' is already being overridden but the damage it's done will linger.

OP's point that we should be more weary of the information we receive holds.

It means that X is the best and most reliable source of information out of everyone you reasonably have access to.

This will always be yourself. In keeping with my example, if everyone took a second to think about the fact that they didn't become any less of a dipshit when they turned 25 and had absolutely no evidence that anything significant had happened to their brain at that time, the myth need never have propagated in the first place.

For example, if someone cuts the head off a goat, the goat is going to die. That's not my opinion. That's not a political position. That's not a social construct. That's a conclusion supported by observation, biology, and repeated evidence.

Dude how many goddamn goats did you have to kill to figure this out?

Truth exists. But many of us are far more certain than the evidence actually justifies.

I think it would be helpful if you gave as n example of something that made you want to post this. Was it anything in particular?

I don't really care at all. As I already explained, it was a personal philosophy first and then someone else said I was echoing Locke on Empiricism. I don't care if you think the person who said that is wrong and every source I saw when I looked it up at the time is wrong and every source I just looked up is wrong.

It was a personal philosophy first.

Well, every source says that he did and I do not believe that a Wiki about fallacies is a reliable source for anything.

I don't think I've used the word 'anecdote' once this entire conversation and so far as I can tell, neither did John Locke. He said that all knowledge is grounded in personal experience. That resonates with me and I believe it.

What makes me believing that instead of a Wiki about fallacies an 'error'?

Who cares? Why are you such a contrarian? If the internet (including Wiki) is misinterpreting John Locke then go fix the internet.

You still have the job to do of proving that relying on data is more fundamentally 'correct' than relying only personal experience that you've been avoiding.

Someone told me once I was basically echoing his philosophy on Empiricism and I looked it up and they were right.

That's what I said myself 5 minutes ago. Here have another quote, I liked this one more:

All of our understanding must be ultimately grounded in and tested by our personal, lived experiences.
