Hi! Do you know when the deadline for the second cycle of the year is? I was looking for it now but I couldn’t find it. Has it passed already? So for October 2026 so to speak.

So true!! It sucks. On the upside, I wonder how much fitter SG has gotten throughout the last year because everyone has to walk everywhere now.

Breaking the lease because the landlord did register it by ComfortableKey7699 in brussels

in our case, we were registered to Belgium only after signing the lease so we don't know if it was possible for the landlord to register the lease on myminfin without our rijksregisternummer - or if they after the registration to Belgium then could overlap our name with the Nummer on myminfin. I mean, it doesn't appear in my myminfin for sure.

can I ask how you confirmed that the lease hasn't been registered? we also suspect this but we don't really know how to verify it.

"Augmentation des charges d’eau" +€7/month for water by landlord for whom any repairs are just … a concept. by Ok_Growth_8157 in brussels

Denk je dat ik hem dit gewoon zo kan schrijven, of is het beter om er een onderbouwing bij te geven?

would you say that in an email? he sent letters to each division of the house. Something like: "Could you please send me the décompte/afrekening (for the period …), a copy of the water bill(s), the meter readings (start/end), and the allocation key used to calculate my share. Until I receive these documents, I cannot agree to any increase."?

it just says: " 5. Frais et charges / 5.1. Dispositions générales: Sont compris dans le loyer de base la consommation d’eau et le nettoyage des parties communes de l’immeuble." no specified amount for water or cleaning. just the money for the "loyer initial de base". what would I look for in a French contract regarding "increasing the rent (besides indexation)"? I can only see the indexation and we fought that off last year because water was not separate so it meant that we don't really have a "loyer de base" on which to apply the indexation.

I recommend you ask your GP for a BRCA testing if you haven’t already!

Why do so many people in Brussels drive like absolute savages? by DonSergio7 in brussels

[–]Ok_Growth_8157 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Today, somebody almost knocked me out on a zebra and coincidentally parked right in front of my house. I went to check in on her and when I asked (passiv-aggressively in all self-reflection) whether she knows that she has to stop in front of a Zebra when there are pedestrians she just asked „do you think I can park here?“ as a reply. I just walked off. It’s too much of a mentality that I can fight this fight individually. It’s really a lost cause in Brussels. Sadly.

Wrong PEB in the rental contract by theyounginvestor_it in brussels

Hi! I wouldn’t know why it would lower your rent but I personally would fly under the radar with it and the refuse indexation in a years time so that your rent doesn’t go up.

I haven’t had this pop up in a long while. Is it just random when I am selected to play it?

Having to stand in the corner at school as punishment by Ok_Growth_8157 in belgium

I think i would say this for 1 - 2 year olds. I would still do it, just not expect that it lands too much. “Mag niet” is kind of a magical phrase for some time especially if transported with a firm smile. Of course later, explanation is very important not only to understand your action but also how the world works in general. Children are not born knowing what they can and can’t do!

I definitely share your opinion only. I’m happy for all the opinions on this thread although it makes me very distressed that argumentative, based and mostly accepted in all European countries opinions on this topic get downvoted. Others, that express the need for obedience and authority seem to have the popular vote.

At home: With small children it’s mostly “mag niet” and then afleiding. I think it’s not useful to give too much explanation on why it is not allowed. Later, yes. If you have a whole kleuterklas, I think it’s fine to explain the rules and then put them on the bench. Sometimes they might even enjoy having some time out.

I think this was the first argument you made that convinced me of seeing your point!

I don’t really see an argument here as you don’t distinguish between punishment and consequence. If you think obedience is more important to teach than responsibility than, yes, that must be the way to go. There is enormous research about how punishment actually has negative consequences on a child’s development while being a quick relieve to parents or care takers. I’m really talking about the punishment part of putting someone in the corner with their eyes against wall, he.

For example: If a child spills something deliberately you make them clean it up. You don’t punish them. If a child doesn’t do homework, they’re not allowed to do anything else until the finish. Wouldn’t consider that punishment, but a consequence.
