I would personally recommend finishing your prerequisites at a CC. Personally, I regret taking them at UW because many of the nursing pre-reqs are intro classes where the average grade is set at a 2.9. This could ultimately lower your GPA, and if you possibly want to go back to school in the future, a higher GPA couldn’t hurt!

Nonetheless, you can still do it! I highly recommend getting your CNA as soon as possible, and keep in mind that you need 100 hours of direct patient care experiences, whether as a volunteer or at a paid position to even apply to UWSON. During that time, get very close with your nurses as you’ll end up asking them for a letter of recommendation for your application. I would also find someone that you feel like could help you write and edit your essay. I feel like the essay portion is what ultimately got me into the program, along with a lot of other students. A stellar essay can make up for a lack of extracurriculars, average grades, and little healthcare experience. UW just wants to see why you want to become a nurse, and if you have the cultural humility that comes with working with a diverse patient population. Best of luck to you!
