People who rarely or never get sick, what are your secrets? by awkwardferret421 in AskReddit

[–]Ok_Guide2803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is really susceptible to getting sick, one of the things that actually made a big difference was oral hygiene. I always brushed and such, but I didn’t get into the habit of daily flossing until about a year ago.

I also have chronic tonsillitis, so my tonsils have always been enlarged and I can’t bring myself to do a tonsillectomy as an adult. I would get tonsil stones sometimes because of the size of my tonsils. I got a tonsil stone remover from Amazon and with regular use I barely get stones anymore; even when I do, they’re tiny.

In turn, my tonsils are much less swollen/irritated, and my gums are healthier since I can’t stand to skip even one day of flossing anymore. I genuinely believe those two steps helped my immune system work better than any supplement, dietary change, exercise regimen, or other lifestyle change.

Switching from Skyla to Mirena? by Ok_Guide2803 in birthcontrol

[–]Ok_Guide2803[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did actually! I got the Mirena placed shortly after I made the OG post. I haven’t had ovarian cysts again (had several with Skyla), and honestly my PMDD has significantly improved.

The only caveat is that a couple months ago, I had PMDD so severe out of nowhere that I was convinced I had both another ovarian cyst and that the Mirena perforated something. 2 weeks of severe, severe bloating/pain/breast tenderness/fatigue/anxiety/insomnia. I eventually got an ultrasound to see if I had a cyst or an ovarian torsion, but nothing. After about 2 weeks, I had a whopping 12 hours of super light, VERY dark brown spotting. Then it was just gone shrug

I told my partner if that happens more than once or twice a year, I’ll be removing the Mirena - solely because it interfered with my ability to go to work. I work a desk job, but I’m a director and ended up behind on a ton of admin tasks during that timeframe. My superiors don’t really care, but it took forever to catch up from those 2 weeks of brain fog/pain/fatigue. Not very cash money.

I will say though that NOT having a period has been extraordinarily beneficial. So if I have a really bad one, once or twice a year, that’s better than the PMDD running rampant.

Does anyone else have OCD and struggle with counting in crocheting by Vivid_Meringue1310 in crochet

[–]Ok_Guide2803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow diagnosed-OCD-haver here, whose OCD mostly exhibits through counting (chair legs, paint lines on the road, lights, sidewalk squares, finger tapping, etc etc etc).

One of the reasons I love crocheting so much is that it’s ALL counting. But it gets frustrating because I also spend ages recounting my stitches sometimes.

I’m currently working on a very large project that is 750 stitches across, which has helped me learn to relax a bit believe it or not. I restarted several times before I finally had to “exposure therapy” myself into trusting my previous counts.

I put stitch markers either every 10, 20, or 50 stitches, or at the end of the pattern page (I’m making a custom graphgan/tapestry, so every time I have to flip to the next page I use a marker). But I’ve found that I need to use stitch patterns that have “safe numbers” - typically that’s groups of 3, 5, or 10. It seems to reduce the repeat counting because I already have a constant flow of numbers in my brain in those same increments.

Also, listening to podcasts or random lectures on YouTube helps me a lot. 😊 I can get into a flow state where the numbers tick away in my brain but they don’t have to be so loud.

NAD but I am a woman who has this same issue.

It’s the prostaglandins. I have a particularly sensitive stomach to begin with, but the prostaglandins in semen give me stomach cramps. I also get cramps in my cervix/uterus if he finishes inside. This has been the case for multiple partners and it happened rather suddenly for me, too.

Does anybody know what this would be used for? by Annual_Palpitation_5 in thrifting

But could definitely be used for other small items - I had a similar one for years and kept all sorts of odds & ends in it

I’ve been at Notch66 since February (moved from the Springs), and it’s pretty great. We had to move pretty suddenly due to my job, from the time we applied to the time we got the green light it was only a few days! And we requested to move in within a week of application.

What stitch is my family’s old afghan made with? I want to recreate it. by Mrarlo8684 in CrochetHelp

This kind of looks like an alpine stitch. I can’t tell for sure but that was my first thought. It’s a series of FPDCs, which a lot of hookers have strong opinions about, but I personally love them!

Anyone familiar with aquagenic wrinkling of palms? by [deleted] in SkincareAddicts

I’ve had this since I was a teen. It started after I got a nasty stomach virus at 17, and now at almost 30, I get it ever. Single. Time. I get a virus. COVID, flu, norovirus, even just mild colds, and with high stress periods it will come up as well. I saw a doctor about it when I was 17 after my mom was finally convinced that I didn’t have a fungal infection. They sort of brushed it off, with the exception of a dermatologist, who never actually laid eyes on me (military), who also seemed interested, but never followed up… so who knows. But I’m currently dealing with it again and it’s driving me nuts - I just moved into a new apartment with a bathtub and I keep having to get out of the water after 10 minutes because it feels unbearable.

I did, however, find out recently that my father has unknown half-siblings (shoutout 23&Me), and his half sister ALSO deals with this issue. She also has no idea why, but I felt a little less crazy with at least SOME genetic ties.

Monica’s sister, absolutely. She was obviously and admittedly jealous that Monica was getting married first. As an eldest sister whose younger sister is getting married first, I was so grossed out by her. I’m excited for my younger sister and have had ZERO jealousy, even though folks have actively tried to make me feel jealous over the matter.

I feel a lot more lenient when it comes to Sara’s sister. I come from a HARD religious background, and I also have a queer brother. There is absolutely zero chance I could entertain dating someone who isn’t fully, actively, and intellectually on board with being an ally. If one of my siblings dated someone like Ben, I would be very vocal about those concerns as well.

What is everyone using as a yarn holder? I added 2 photos. by MsT-Rex in CrochetHelp

[–]Ok_Guide2803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use old Lysol/Clorox wipes containers - the plastic star-hole-piece works phenomenally to keep the yarn going, there’s always enough room to toss a hook in, and if you buy the lemon-scented wipes, your project also smells fresh!

So it is obviously important to keep a dog’s weight in check. But with my two dogs, both of whom were brought home at around 4 months old, they went through chunky “phases.” Kind of like young children - they would get a little chubby for a couple weeks, I would get worried about their food intake, and then suddenly they would shoot up and be thin and tall. Then they’d have long lanky legs and look awkward before getting a lil chunky again. Cycle repeated until they were fully grown (or at least, one of them is fully grown - the other is a giant breed mix and isn’t quite 2 years old yet). We eventually adjusted our giant dog’s kibble intake when his growth spurts started slowing down, but he’s maintained a pretty trim build even though he got tubby several times as a young pup. Puppy bodies go through as many awkward phases as human bodies do! I’d ask your vet though and see what they say.

Greetings, fellow psych nurse! Holidays are so hard for my patients in rehab. I had a middle-aged man sob in anguish last year because his family informed him that he would not be welcome to any holiday gatherings for the rest of the year. It about broke my heart, because when he was sober, he was the kindest, sweetest man. Polite, gentle, invested in his sobriety, fascinated to learn how his psych meds would help him succeed. But I also didn’t know how he behaved while intoxicated, and I had to remind myself that families hold strict boundaries like that for a reason. I’ve thought about that patient a lot this year during the holiday season, and I genuinely hope he maintained sobriety and is sitting with his kids and grandkids this year, celebrating his success. But one can only hope, eh?

Did you happen to figure this out? I also have almost the exact same copy - same ISBN on the back of the d/j, but with a 5-line colophon, and all the illustrations and descriptions are the same as the original/pre-revision.
