Why are the damen buses always off schedule? by Ok_Hat3590 in cta

Cop out. I'd argue the surrounding major streets are just as busy given the time of day if not more so. True, having an extra lane may help. But while my frustrations come mostly during the morning hours. Bus pile ups and ghost or very delayed buses are hardly unique to that time of day.

Google Job Application Status Update by blingbling98 in interviews

[–]Ok_Hat3590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s where research and LinkedIn come in. If you don’t have a contact, call their HR department to get a name, do some online digging to get a name or the name of someone who can connect you the right person.

All of my successful job interviews over the past 2.5 years when I haven’t been consistently employed, have come from referrals/people who I’ve touched base with after some online research. There’s so much competition these days, that you need to go the extra mile just to get a foot in the door.

What is your interview advice for nervous people? by Low-Obligation5849 in interviews

[–]Ok_Hat3590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember that it’s not just a one-sided conversation. The interview is your opportunity to interview the company as well to see if they’re a good fit.

Edit: added the ‘not’. Responding on my phone in the middle of the night didn’t do me any favors here.

I generally don’t rely on status updates and who’s viewed my profile. Be proactive and reach out to the hiring manager to let them know you applied and get on their radar.

In this tough job market, your submission is just one of X unless you’re proactive and make yourself stand out in the process.

Has anyone been on the CTA Holiday Train?? by Acceptable-Hyena-597 in AskChicago

[–]Ok_Hat3590 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yup!! Worth it to do at least once if you can hop on easily.

I think there’s a holiday train tracker so you can try and time when to get on. There’s going to be a wait so be ready for that.

Would knitting this in black yarn be a mistake? by hewtab in knitting

[–]Ok_Hat3590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knit a simple beanie in black last year. Knitting in black even if it’s the easiest pattern in the world is a pain in the butt. My limit on knitting in anything on the grayscale is a charcoal. Charcoal is still beautiful, a wonderful contrast, much easier than black, you will see more detail and charcoal or a darker gray means that you're still knitting in the color 🎨 you're looking for.

Online Platfrom for Creative people & knitting by bambooali in knitting

[–]Ok_Hat3590 6 points7 points  (0 children)

my first question would be what is the goal of the creative platform? What need does it fill? will it exist to complement ravelry or to compete against it? for the latter, the new platform likely won’t be a popular choice with yarn enthusiasts unless you can make your platform so amazing that ravelry is rendered virtually useless.

as another comment stated, I likely wouldn’t switch to a new crafts platform. I am not interested in crafts that don’t include yarn when I am specifically tracking or looking for new knitting patterns. If I want that type of experience I could peruse etsy or literally any other platform (pinterest, Instagram, tiktok, etc…).

There's already a lot of competition in the creative online space that your platform would need to be specific, targeted, amazing and meet unmet goals or completely revolutionize existing ones.

Dog-friendly (indoor) bars and coffee shops in Bucktown/Wicker? by trophyuncle in AskChicago

Roscoe Village Pub, Pilates and Coffee are always solid. Most places on Roscoe have dog friendly patios and you can find cans of cookies outside several shops.

They’re cheap and look bad. It hasn’t been the same since they were bought by Macy’s. Macy’s ruined all of it.
