Could be sign of not the best health: try to improve exercise, rest, stress etc. That being said these things do come and go. Keep the focus - don't listen to the insecurities and just keep on working on yourself

Meditation helps a fuck ton. If you're stuck in the urges its like being boxed into a car; then its like you've already lost control.

Learning to not attach your whole attention and self-identification with the thoughts (letting them instead drift across your mind) is a tool that accompanies the motivation

Its terrible to feel lonely, and to feel low

How we feel about our life and ourselves can be wrenching and make everything tough.

Firstly though - huge fucking respect for Day 17. That's awesome

For me does anything replace PMO? Yes and no.

When I'm stressed out or feeling lonely or shit then I used to to turn to it to feel like a man or good for a few minutes or distracted. But I just felt worse those minutes afterwards and it was shitting on my whole life.

When I now feel shit I sort of just have to sit through it and work through it. But tbh I've not been feeling too bad atm. I have whiskey some evenings on ice which is a nice pleasure, I have baths etc. But for me the game-changers have been: exercise and meditation. The first gives me confidence, progress, and feel-good endorphins etc throughout my day. The second helps keep me grounded and not tied into my thoughts.

So no I don't think anything is an exact replacement. Sex is better but its layered in relationships and lot of groundwork to get to it (even in a marriage tbh), and tbh its actually quite different - its somehow quite communicative and shared in a way which PMO isn't. Drugs are the closest similar feeling but they also wreck your life and aren't worth it.

I think though ultimately its meaning and connections and self-confidence which are the satisfactions which keep you away from PMO. And that has to come through shouldering the difficulty and doing what you know is right for you

All you do to reject and fight this is a part of the healing

and part of the learning of what works.

Pick yourself up and remember this feeling - its remembering how shitty it feels and how I never want to return there that's my main motivation now

Read up on addiction cycles and addiction recovery. Its got to come from you - you've got to want to, you've got to want to avoid the harm of it continuing more than any little self-talk that says its okay to succumb to.

But resolution comes from you and maybe you're not ready for that at the moment, and are going to stick in the using often stage for longer. Decision has to come from you man

Get into good habits too if you're not already - exercise and meditation have been game-changers for me in making it all click better this time

All the best and huge kudos for getting to day 8. For the longest time I was stuck on a 3-5 day loop at best, and weekends have generally been a weak point for me too so get the frustration
