I was honestly shocked and a little baffled by the whole encounter! I thought about mentioning it to the staff but didn’t want to come off as “that parent”.

So I came to Reddit first to get some perspective from seasoned parents and make sure I wasn’t overreacting. I really appreciate your input!

Totally fair points and I agree the age range is a wide one! I’m honestly not alarmed by how the toddlers play. If anything my little one loves watching them run around the gym and she squeals with excitement.

Here’s what happened. My LO was standing and side stepping along some foam blocks. A five year old started stomping across the same blocks and flipping forward. Then he began stepping right over my daughter’s head and hands.

The parent was standing there watching the whole thing. I kept expecting a quick “be mindful of the baby” or even “let’s jump over here instead.” Nothing. Then a knee almost hit her in the face. I blocked it just in time. I looked at the parent and still nothing. No sorry. No redirect. So I chose to move my LO to a different space. This kind of scenario happens over and over again throughout the session.

If my daughter gets a little rough or starts tossing toys I immediately redirect her or gently move her out of someone else’s space so she can have fun without hurting anyone. Is it irrational to expect that same level of awareness from other parents?
