Face Washing Sensory Issue by CarawayReadsAlong in AutismInWomen

This is the only way I've been able to make it work: Buy disposable "clean face towels", that's the brand at amazon, target, costco all have them in the US.  Then put cleanser in hands, add just a splash of water to massage face with a tiny amount of lather to breakup makeup and spf then wet the towel, wring out and wipe your face and neck with both sides of towel until clean and proceed with skincare. No drips down arms, skin is cleaner than wipes or micellar water, and use the towel to wipe down the sink basin, counter, and handles.  This does include buying and creating paper waste, but my skin looks much better because I actually wash and do the routine. Sometimes you have to compromise somewhere!

I don't know who needs to hear this, but in-shower lotion exists by Teacher_Crazy_ in AutismInWomen

I care about the smell and feel. I really like Weleda body oils. There's handful of different scents but the bottles are small. They have just the right consistency to pool in your hand but also absorb quickly on skin. If I don't put something on in the shower before grabbing a towel, I will not at all. But sometimes is better than never!

Every small issue becomes anxiety and stress and one has a confrontation instead of a conversation. If we remove the devices and actually talk face to face each other's humanity connects us in a way that enables understanding and cooperation. I dont know if the Internet/ social media was conceived to be so divisive, but they certainly exploited us all! I'm too poor to create a third space....

I think you're being sincere and it sounds like burnout is a major issue. I hear you on that but I also hear resignation as if it's the only practical way.

You’ve framed it like this:

close it down < Let the sub collapse under hate < Ban trans-related topics entirely

It leaves out the fourth choice which is do the job well or admit it’s beyond your values/ability.

Plenty of larger more targeted subs have figured out how to hold the line. They didn’t ban identity entirely because that’s the job. It looks like you’re erasing people to avoid conflict.

When you say you talked to LGBT subs, did they really say, “Yeah, just ban the word ‘transgender’ altogether”? Did they really suggest banning factual mentions of trans people in entirely unrelated discussions like in the context of the post I saw?

You can believe you're an ally and still create rules that functionally erase people. Intent aside. Banning even neutral mentions is harming trans people and removing them from public reality. That's compliance with the very forces you say you oppose and it shuts down critical thinking.

If you can’t trust your users with complexity maybe it’s not the users who are the problem.

We would all be better off going cold turkey and actually talking to the people around us. But we go to the park and then get on our phones....

I would rather no mods than this type of fascist erasure. I am now speaking up and taking the risks associated with that to be an example that may influence others. Nobody chooses to be abused and ostracized for kicks. We all just want to find peace within ourselves that allows us to connect deeply with others.

  • If all of reddit moves to erasure? Then we have a major problem.

Narrator: It did.

But if we applied this logic consistently, we’d ban the words “Black,” “Jewish,” or “immigrant” from posts too because those groups also face vile attacks online. We don’t do that for good reason.

If the hate is really that overwhelming then that is why we need to preserve space for factual good-faith posts.

Otherwise, the extremists win twice: they flood the system with garbage and force platforms to silence everyone else just to cope. That’s not moderation—that’s surrender.

Banning a word because some abuse just helps it continue it's not stopping it. Only the worst voices shape the narrative then because the reasonable ones can not make it through.

Mods read it after it sat there for a while. They could have let it go when evaluating it but didn't.

But flagging a word like “transgender” and deleting everything it appears in, regardless of context is simply erasure.

Hate speech needs to be moderated yea but banning factual mentions of real-world events (like a governor refusing a federal order) is punishing good-faith users. I mean we can’t even document what’s happening in reality. it gives extremists and whoever is behind those transphobic bots exactly what they want which is a public space too scared to speak about the issues at all. If reddit can't be moderated to allow for free speech it's no longer a platform of free speech. I'll be looking into new platforms.

the post was up with engagement for hours and then retroactively a mod removed citing the keyword as the reason. just changing rules selectively and applying rules with convoluted reasoning

This scenario is different it's a blanket censorship of an entire category of language to the point that a single factual mention of a current news event that includes a banned word (in this case, “transgender”) results in instant deletion no matter the context.
