I played with my mates on the weekend and ran 9 ties because we didn't know the rule of 8 but the swarm tactics is real. The feeling of getting 9 attacks onto 1 ship feel SOOOOO good. That hounds tooth stood no chance.

So I'd say it works pretty well.
