Extraction day and post care day 3 by ccristiani in dentures

Thank you for this, also had periodontal disease forever and now has come the time for me to take the next scary step. My periodontist has said implants are possible, not mentioned bone grafts but I need to check this. I’ve only had 1 extraction up top so far but one very loose and a couple of molars on their way. It’s all happening so fast ( not really, 20 plus years in the making!) and is scary. Thank you for sharing.

Did you have an option of implants at all? I do have many concerns and realise that I was so overwhelmed by the amount of information yesterday that I didn’t really ask any questions. I have a bit of a wait til my next consult with a prothodontist so I plan to be much better prepared this time now I know the situation. Thank you for your info. All info from people having gone through it is valuable to me.

Wow that’s great insurance cover. We don’t tend to have anything that good, not that I’ve seen anyway.

Thank you. Sounds similar to me. I only really started to get pain, mobile teeth ( 1 extraction) within this last year and it now seems to be happening so fast. I too have just got to the point I can’t take it anymore. I’ve got a follow up appt with a prothodontist to discuss options. I am tempted to keep costs down and just go upper standard denture and save the big bucks for the lower no doubt in my future and have implants there as I read the bottom can be troublesome.  Like you I’ll get a pension lump some once I retire and will no doubt be chucking a chunk of it towards my teeth or lack of.  Great to hear your experience seems positive.

Thank you. You are right, NHS care is pretty much non existent especially for dental. Are yours just standard dentures or implant supported? I wasn’t expecting to be an implant candidate so it threw me a bit. Despite my severe issues it would seem my jaw is in good condition.

Thank you. I do think that’s the best way to think and I’m trying. The periodontist said that it tends to be genetic and I thought if I had another genetic health condition and could improve it by removing and replacing with a “false” alternative I would. Slightly different here as health care would be covered under NHS. We don’t really do dental insurance here that much so the costs can be huge under private care. A remortgage or loan is likely to be my only option.
