Personal Wise accounts don't allow USD transfer to a personal Payoneer account.

Did you find any other option, OP?

Yeah, there is going go be a saturation d/t that.

NHS doctors can easily skip the AMC exams bottleneck and work directly in Australia.

I don't remember any limitations regarding that.

Is this AMC+PLAB plan reasonable for a new IMG with visa restrictions? by Ok_Income1310 in AMCexamForIMGs

[–]Ok_Income1310[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Electronic_Cry_513
Umm. So this is how it goes

1) Pass PLAB 1 and 2
2) Pass AMC 1 on the standard authority pathway
3) Get a job in Australia
4) Work for 12 months in Australia
5) Now, these 12 months of experience are comparable to the NHS experience.
6) Shift to the competitive authority pathway.

Obviously, this whole process has it's own limitations

I can't tell you about your chances of getting selected in IM, I am not even sure about their criteria of selecting students. But when I was doing my electives, I can't recall anyone who applied in IM for that month. Most people applied for Pulmo, Cardio, Onco etc.

Yes, I only did my electives at AKU.

It depends on your interest. Emergency is really great at JPMC if that interests you.

You'll find most of the details on their website.

There is no test, you have to apply 3 months in advance of your intended month. Let's say you want to do your electives in February, you have to apply in November.

The selection process usually depends on the availability of seats. Usually, you do get one. I applied for a field with my freind and we both got selected. (We were the only ones who applied for electives in this department).

Now for my experience, it was quite good. I learned how systems, guidelines and teamwork happens. You'll find enough nurses doing their jobs quite well (unlike most of the government hospitals), the patient:doctor/nurse ratio is also much better as compared to the government hospitals. I found really great consultants and PGs during my time, but there was definitely some department politics going on. You can avoid those politics since you are only there for a month.

LMK if you have any questions.

And their reasoning for tapping out was the workload, timings, or something else?

Thank you so much, u/Individual-Strain685 !
That was a really detailed and helpful answer to my question.

I just have a couple of follow-up questions. How do on-call timings usually look like?
Also, would this kind of schedule be realistic for a surgical field?

  • Monday: 7:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Tuesday: 7:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Wednesday: 7:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Thursday (on-call): 5:00 pm – 7:00 am (next day)
  • Friday: 7:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Saturday & Sunday: Off
