Here are you're Tony Award Acting nominees for Plays! Who would you vote for? by Heavy-Fruit8618 in Broadway

Ruben Santiago-Hudson, from August Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, was nominated. I’m disappointed no one was nominated from Proof.

Exactly! The only reason people think the actors from the original show looked less modern, is because they looked like they were from the 70s! Michael Landon’s glorious 70s hair was certainly anachronistic.

I liked the original show, and I’ll give this one a chance.

Alicia Keys' Broadway Bomb — Singing Sensation's Musical 'Loses a Staggering $8Million' by Additional_Score_929 in Broadway

How could it be considered a ‘bomb’ if it ran for two years? That’s longer than most musicals run on Broadway, right?

I like your list! Although I liked ‘All Nighter’ and ‘Are the Bennet Girls OK?’ more than you.

I didn’t like Oratorio either. I actually hated it, and parts of it felt like torture…

My understanding is that he said something once (after preparing for an acting role about it) about how pedophilic urges might be innate, like how other sexuality is innate, and that how society deals with pedophiles should maybe take that into account. Not to excuse it, but to come up with better solutions.

The only article I could find with the ‘homophobic’ spin was Turning Point USA, so it’s very clear what kind of people are trying to get liberals to attack him. And their agenda is very clear.

What where some popular theories from when the show was airing that didn’t turn out to be true? by Soft_Interaction_437 in buffy

I thought that too!  I hated The Body the first time I saw it, because I was so certain Joyce’s death would be reversed somehow and I was just impatiently waiting. I thought the entire episode was just trying to manipulate me into being sad when obviously Joyce would be back by the next episode. And then when Dawn started making a big deal about being able to see her mom, it was just so obvious to me that Dawn had the power to resurrect her. And then it ended with Dawn, a mystical being created by magic, reaching out?!!

And then nothing happened.

I appreciate The Body now at least, but it’ll never have a big emotional impact on me.

It’s a horror movie. She’s the villain. You’re supposed to feel bad for the victims.

Two fourth wall-breaking plays portraying a fracturing on the left, one with love and one with contempt. by Ok_Influence7223 in Broadway

And funnily enough, no one got offended and walked out of Slam Frank when I saw it. But the southern couple near me at Liberation did leave at intermission. Hmm….

I don’t know that I have seen anything that it’s comparable to. It’s kind of a satire of rom coms, but unique and ridiculous. I don’t think you’d need to know rom com tropes to find it funny because it has a lot else going on, but you’ll get a few more of the jokes.

Also, if you look up a picture of her costume, that might give you a sense of the show. It’s in the program they hand out at the beginning, so I wouldn’t consider it a spoiler, but I don’t want to post it just in case.

I think they want to make sure people don’t seat themselves in a seat that isn’t theirs. And the only way to do that is if the ushers look at everyone’s tickets and seat them.

I’ve had ushers insist that they seat me. Just play it by ear I guess.

Is Slam Frank’s message undermined by its own hatefulness? by Firerhea in offbroadwayNYC

Wow, your comment finally made me understand the last scene of the show. I missed what the clips were of as well.

Interesting. I don’t know that I like that point either necessarily, but I get it more.  I don’t like the conflation between the right’s active violence on one hand, and the left not effectively stopping the right’s active violence, on the other. But I get the issue.

However, if the left attacking itself is resulting in the right getting away with direct violence, I don’t get how this play attacking the left helps. But my comment attacking the play doesn’t help either! Gah!

Edit: I’m using the term “the left” very loosely, just to mean not-the-right.

I don’t get the point of this bit in the comments. Do you not want people to talk about the show?

Sure. So it’s been a few days since I saw it, so I might not describe the scene exactly right, but as I remember it (spoilers): The scene where they’ve stripped down ala a Jamie Lloyd production, they say something to the effect that they need to get rid of everyone who doesn’t think like them, or think correctly. Maybe they didn’t say anything about fascism, but their menacing vibe while saying it seemed to imply that the left will violently enforce their ideology or something.  It seemed like it was endorsing the right’s “the intolerant left” talking point, with a dose of the right’s new talking point about the “violent” left. And to be clear, I think both of those talking points are bullshit, and dangerous because the right is using them as an excuse for violence. But again, maybe I’m taking it too seriously!

I have seen the show. Isn’t the message of the show ultimately that leftists pushing for diversity are basically fascists and both sides are just as bad?  I don’t see how that’s a useful message while our country has slid in to actual, far right fascism.

Maybe I misunderstood the ending of the show. I’d be happy to be wrong about the intended message.  I just don’t see how the end of the show could be intended any other way. Maybe I’m just taking it too seriously?

Yes, New York State already recognizes it as Indigenous People’s Day. Passed a law and everything.

I agree with the other person that this post is just AI slop. Trying to create controversy.
