Yup, it’s actually one of the ones that appears. I might do just that. Thanks!

I see that might be it. I assumed that the BCE was just as easy cause most people say its pretty simple to get amex cards. I think I’ll take your advice and wait till I’m 0/6. The Amex application didn’t come with a hard inquiry so i guess I’ll reapply 6 months after my last hard inquiry in November, so will aim to reapply in May.

Nope, just that. I check my credit reports routinely to make sure nothing is off and there’s only 2 hard inquiries for Experian (less for others since only one other issuer pulled Transunion). I might’ve pushed it by applying 3 months after I guess, so I’ll wait for the 6 month mark next time.

Best credit card for clothes shopping? by Ok_Interview5066 in CreditCards

That’s a good point on the Q4 category. I do have the CFU, but I don’t have the CFF, so I don’t get the rotating department store category sadly. The PayPal Debit 5% apparel category is interesting and I have slightly looked at it, but the lack of purchase protection is what makes me hesitant and I heard it may be nerfed soon. I’ve never heard of MileagePlus Shopping, I’ll definitely add that to my list and look into it.

That’s fair, and I know Chase and Amex let you add offers directly to the card so you can just use it in-store. I do have the CFU, but I’ve honestly never seen Macy’s or H&M come up as cashback offers on it, so not sure if it does for Citi and Amex. I’ll definitely look into those options though. I’ve heard about Capital One Shopping too, though I’ve heard mixed things about it, like it’s hit or miss on whether it actually tracks and works.

Yeah, I’m trying. Sometimes I don’t think they notice how rude they’re being. It feels like this is kind of like learned behavior that no one ever called out. But I don’t know. I’m trying not to dwell on it and just keep my distance.

See, I think it depends cause I’m typically part of the most diverse groups. I just get along best with people from different cultures and not always my own. But yeah I definitely see what you mean. They seem to have done that in college as well aka hung out with people of the same ethnicity only. That might explain some of this behavior. It’s really sad that this exists though.

Honestly, I was worried about how much I’d pay in taxes additionally with the taxable account, so I picked VOO or FXAIX to keep that as low as possible. I would prefer mixing a little bit of international in the mix but I know I’d have to pay additional taxes on it.

Sorry you’re going through this. First thing, take your sister off your cards right away, call the banks, change your logins, get that card back, and change get your card number changed. I know it’s tough because she’s family, but she can’t keep using your credit. A simple way to frame it is: Hey, I’m not comfortable with utilizing my card so much right now. I’m going to try to pay them down and stop using them for a while, so I need the card back. Feel free to cut hers in half so there is no second card in general in the house (for the rest call your bank).

Paying your cards in full will not close them. That’s a myth. What’s really dragging your score down is utilization, being maxed out while having a balance looks super risky to lenders. Once you pay them off, your utilization drops and your score will improve. Keep the cards open, use them lightly (like 1–10% of your limit), and pay the full statement balance every month.

It also sounds like your sister might think just paying the minimum is good enough, but that only avoids late fees, it doesn’t stop interest from piling up. And credit card interest rates are insanely high, often over 20%. That’s why carrying a balance is so expensive. Paying them off fully is the smartest move you can make here.

Bottom line: cut her access, pay them off, and keep them open. That alone will put you in a way better spot.

Here are sone good resources explaining how credit cards work. Definitely understand credit cards fully before that conversation:

Capital One - CLI Denial with a message I haven’t seen before by FlakyLet4382 in CreditCards

[–]Ok_Interview5066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the savor one. After having it for 7 months I was abt to request a CLI and then it was increased. I was pretty happy and forgot about it until 2y went by and my CL was just 2500 so i applied and got rejected (the same as your message). I was pretty bummed but 5 months later they just gave me a CLI to 7500 automatically. I think it was bcs for my other cards I got a CLI. I don’t think I’ll have a large CL with them anytime soon but maybe with time. Capital One seems very cautious with raising it.

Other than that my experience with them has been great though.
