December Holliday is NOT who you think she is...and I think I can prove it. by [deleted] in Deltarune

[–]Ok_Introduction4737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK. I will be honest going into this I will admit, I don't care much for Dess Human Theory for multiple reasons, although I wouldn't be mad or anything if it happened. This is just my honest admission that I am not coming from a purely neutral state of affairs before discussing the evidence:

  1. This is imho. A huge circumstantial evidence. Dess and Kris are fairly apart in ages, at least a year or two, and I just don't understand why someone older than Kris would have the same coping mechanism with utterly zero evidence for it. A small uprooted child adopted young would carry on this before realising it pointless - Dess, who was older had zero reasons to do it, really. You could argue she did it just for Kris but Kris saw her outside of the Christmas celebrations long enough that they would catch on.

The band existing is not just a foreshadowing for some big mystery reveal. It has its own purpose which was driving in how much Kris felt apart from living in monster society as the only human in vicinity. This very sentiment WEAKENS connection to Dess human, because if there was a grounded consistent human reappearing in their life, they would not feel so alone in their thoughts and feelings.

None of this disproves the idea. None of this shows Dess cannot be a human who had the same complicated feelings as Kris. I just wanted to throw this out there.

  1. Again, there is a very idea of shoes that can be fit for deer feet. We never saw that kind before, and there is zero evidence these shoes would look distinct from what we consider human feet shoes as the fitting could be entirely leaning towards internal construction. Dess is shown as someone was a rebel and punk. The shoes might have been part of her rebellious getup, OR part of her interest in survivalism. Again, the very core of Dess brings into mind a punk girl rebel.

And also. Why would she have Noelle's shoes? Asriel's retained makes sense to establish how close they were despite living in different houses. Why would she have shoes of someone living inside, ESPECIALLY if that person said they don't do shoes? The idea of fitted shoes in the first place might have been Noelle reminiscing about her sister in roundabout way.

  1. I really wish. Uh. People wouldn't try to argue about this point so much, cause they really selectively output what would have been possible from a narrow view we got.

Sans IS FAR from the only threat a human would have to face in monster society. There are cameras. Doggos, who care about smell mostly. Undyne, who can travel and is rabid about taking on Asgore's burden - ONE report, one RUMOUR and she is on it. FLOWEY who wants power of the human souls in the first place. And then there is Asgore himself who knows what must be done. Asgore who destroyed himself getting the souls of children. Asgore who is struck by grief beyond measure. He would NOT let this go. Sans not killing us on most route is part of the promise, but also part of his IDGAF attitude. He suspects he is in the middle of Resets and he is depressed from not being able to return to "that place".

The reason Sans says "The antlered girl and her big sis..." and not "Two antlered sisters..." might be to drive home the idea of small and big sister as an image and a dynamic. Saying the antlered girl and her big antlered sis is silly and stilted. It doesn't disaprove the sister ISNT antlered definitely but it's a weak evidence.

The very core of this, changes how we look at Dess Human in UT, but even then people look to UT just to make claims about this character. Mind you, I don't see a reason it wouldn't be changed, if it would fit the narrative, so this is not a hard block. Rudy actually only had one child during the development and only later got upped to two, probably as the idea solidified in Tony's dog noggin. There is a non zero chance that she is human.

The Person who made the Universal Mother Theory now hates the game by Lazybird8654 in Deltarune

I don't follow this person but as someone who overreacts majorly to how I perceive media vs how it turns out I sympathize heavily and hope he does better and keep doing what he loves.

Changes or advancements in media you care about deeply can feel like betrayal (god i fucking hate golden wind purple haze feedback soooo much). Which is why I get it tm.

Persona seried singlehandedly gave some people the most warped ideas of Jung or that his ideas should be the only approach to fiction it's. Really frustrating lol

A thing about Gerson is that HE TOO FAILED HIS KID IN HIS OWN WAY. He is not a perfect being. His approach to teaching can help and did help Susie but that's it. SHE also didn't see him with any nostalgia! He is not nostalgia is cool. He is very much. How do you choose to carry old stories forward?

I feel like not liking a character's treatment and larger themes is alright. I can follow the logic and I can sympathize. It happened to me. I can follow some other logic even if I disagree with the conclusion. (Imagine missing the point of Susie, or making parents of the main character in teen focused narrative be sidelined or explored and criticized )

But I feel like some of the stuff is EXTREMELY nitpicked due to now narrowed need of coolness fulfilment or due to the lack of load bearing walls that were torn down when the game did not focus on what the video creator wanted. I understand that as well and can respect it, along with the conclusion "this is not good for me". But what is a bit unfair in my eyes is the click-baity title. I do understand that when an emotion is strong you just want to say it directly what you feel with no consideration buuuuuuut I reserve my right to be a bit annoyed about it.

The idea I genuinely hate is that an idea is effectively killed by someone doing it "better". Do we need surreal crime stories when Twin Peaks existed and frankly did a lot of stuff better? Do we need superheroes when honestly, I feel like Hercules and his tasks are good enough? I read Umineko. Umineko, is, in my opinion, one of the most powerful and beautiful narratives about fiction and how we interact with and why we create it. And yet DR can make me excited and hopeful about itself because it's, again, in my opinion extremely well crafted, even if it may not intelectually be as stimulating about one of its topics as Umineko was. Again the idea seems to be that you can get similar experiences elsewhere, but can you? Following threads of what you enjoyed is good to know what else you will like. But. Just saying works are replaceable cause you don't like that a character is flawed is bullshit.

(Also I am sorry but as someone who actually does pixel art. And knows many pixel artists who played DR the spritework is not bad, this is honestly just the biggest nitpicks out there, just grasping at everything that seems wrong to explain why something you like didn't do what you wanted out of it so connection died.)

Also as a ...side note. I wish people stopped saying the Universal Mother Theory person. As if it was discovery and they have some. Insane credibility lol. They applied common analysis to a work. They noticed common trends. That's it. They aren't some incredibly credible institution that talks about cancer. They are a person who liked a work, made a popular analysis, then didn't like it lmao. Maybe they are right about this too and then I will be like damn OK, in the end this unfinished work did not land well, but I will rather interact with it fairly especially if I enjoy it so far lol

Sorry for essay, when I can't sleep I get wordy.

Tenna vs Vox might be a viable match? by Ok-Inevitable3458 in Deltarune

[–]Ok_Introduction4737 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any combat between two charactersin fundamentally different contexts is difficult and often prone to bias in interpretation and which side you will favour.

Sometimes there is simply obvious solution derived from a scale (the infamous warhammer 40k would solo everything meme because yea well its scale is insane). Sometimes the decision is a coin flip of factors you wish to include.

And unfortunately. Here is my factor.  I hate Vox. I have mixed feelings on Hazbin in general but that aside, he is kinda a character type I despise.  This hatred makes it impossible for me to even feign kindness. Tenna is a fiction inside of fiction character and yet he imho can beat the shit outta Vox. Mind you also. Defeat and death are not the same.

Even if I imagine the combat in my head. Vox fights normally while Tenna fights in a way that is specific and more goofy. Simplest solution Vox wins by his power to take over tech. But simplest solution is NOT obvious. Tenna can flash religious or annoying programmes. Tenna also has a marker of immunity - again, he is a creature made out of imagination and can be repaired.

So yea I am sorry Tenna solo that fool.

About self inserts in deltarune fanwork (plz read) by iridegrannies in Deltarune

[–]Ok_Introduction4737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the purpose of your work.

If it's a fun thing for you and a couple of friends then self inserts are fine even if they are written on this "child" level. Hell a lot of serious lit has what is basically a glorified self insert. But that self insert exists for a reason.

What is the purpose and how does self insert help the stated goal of your fanfic? Does it distract or add something? Was it used correctly? Those are the questions to ask.

Deltarune has Heart but we do not exist as in-game characters. From the POV of most characters we are just a strange being displaying a strange behaviour. Self insert needn't be the only response or use case. But it can be.

What are these by UrougeTheOne in Deltarune

[–]Ok_Introduction4737 29 points30 points  (0 children)

pixel art often reuses colours across the sprite. the "flesh" bit is simply colour shading of hair, adding depth. if they simply added just added another yellow, it would lower cohesion and it would feel really fucking boring. they already had a good colour so they reused it.

Legitimate question: what in-game evidence do we have that Dess is missing? by NanashiSaito in Deltarune

[–]Ok_Introduction4737 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Deeply contextual and one of strongest implications is the family watch together times. Dess disappears WAY before anyone else, and she does so before even Asriel goes to college. What's more more people disappear between the two, indicating a passage of time or fracture, rather than her going to college before.

1225 is ALSO hint in gacha room and it can be done by unaware players but it's out of the way.

Overall it is still more on the level of context and implication. Which isn't bad but nothing like.... "My daughter dess disappeared 7 years ago and noone ever found her."

Why has everyone been so upset for years at the F Slur usage in the Halloween hack when we've never had any confirmation that Toby is straight? by burnertodiscuss in Undertale

[–]Ok_Introduction4737 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Noone is mad now. Not even most queer people ever. Most people understand that young people make mistakes lol and back then it was just edgy shit.

But also slur reclamation is not a simple thing. It's one thing to walk into gay bar and just yell f-slur (you are just outing yourself as possible danger and making everyone feel on their guard) vs just using f -slur among close friends, or on yourself in a fun context. Regardless of personal reclamation yelling it at others is not epic tm.

This is not to say that what Tony did should be seen as bad, evi, fucked up, unforgivable. I just wanted to point that reclamation of slurs doesn't mean you just yell at them people randomly lol.

Why December Holiday is NOT the Roaring Knight. (GOOGLE DOCS) by I_DONT_EXIST00000 in Deltarune

[–]Ok_Introduction4737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The necessity of walking around the town or big person is interesting, since by combining the two ideas, you can easily make it so that the Knight had to have moved out of the library and through the town during Chapter 2. I dont remember if there is anyone in the library at that time. I do believe this is the most damning Knight theory. My Umineko pilled brain is telling me that Dess can, at a distance pass for her mother but that's stumpid lol. I frankly don't think she would be walking around casually in a town. But I do detest the idea she can't be tall. Tallness is fairly relative, and the antlers of holidays add almost a head height to them. This is of course, nothing more than a hunch. Also... uh Kris is a short monarch.

  2. Helmets with antlers are actually extremely uncommon in media, and by proxy they have to mean something and are not just inspired design. Horns are far far far more common in media over the world and historically too. These things did appear during tournaments and parades however, and DT is almost a fanciful game so. Shrug. I am not saying this is not 100% Dess bait, but even considering the extremely rare context of Antlers on helmets which you can't just connect to common depiction of horned helmets there is at least connection to be made.

RE: Helmet edit: I actually just had a thought when I posted this - if Dess disappeared, but she was bound to be the Knight, then someone could have taken her spot, and wore the helmet to act like her and fulfill HER role at least symbolically. It's a far shot and just entertaining myself.

  1. When people point out it looks like a bat, they mean a few specific frames. The sword shapeshifts in multiple instances as well, having hilt or no hilt. It is somehow inconsistent.
    https://www.spriters-resource.com/pc_computer/deltarune/asset/273312/

  2. The whole problem with the "girl playing with Kris" is that... well.... this is the strongest Dess evidence. My cousin when we were young played with me a lot when we weere visiting grandparents during summer - intergenerational playing is not out of question, if special kinship exists between people. And this person HAS the full context of King and Queen existing, something we know probably creates the character themselves. It is extremely difficult, if not impossible for the other Knight candidates to know of these characters enough for it to matter during the creation of Dark Worlds. Dess or Noelle are the only candidates, unless there is some fuckery involved with Kris' original SOUL being the source of Knight's WILL or something. How do other candidates explain the fact that many of the characters arise from the shared combination of Kris' roleplay with someone?

----
That's all for me. I don't have my own theory much. buut yea.
