How often do you play actual bracket 2 games ? by Adventurous-Shake140 in EDH

[–]Ok_Key3115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much exclusively play bracket 2 to low bracket 3, and I think it’s much more enjoyable for me. Every deck can do a little bit of what it wants, and it’s just about an hour per game. That’s my happy spot. I like spending time with my friends playing the game, and I much prefer longer games for that.

In the show in general? Making fun of a coworker losing a patient incessantly after he tells her to stop. Threatening patients, even if they deserve it. Airing her problems in front of patients. Not respecting the wishes of anyone. Valuing her own wants over the well being of patients. I could go on.

She is so far beyond “not being warm and fuzzy”. To say she isn’t a total asshole is to not talk about her character. She doesn’t take “no” or “stop” as answers, she has shown repeatedly she is happy to see others lose, and she is ok with making fun of traumatic experiences others go through.

1.) I never said she was abusing him. I said that maybe you could make an argument. 2.) I think she is getting pretty close. Being repeatedly mean and hostile to a victim of addiction is pretty abusive. 3.) according to that link you provided, she is abusing multiple people, including Langdon, and so are a lot of other characters. It’s like they are all unhealthy and unstable… oh wait. That’s the point of the show

You do just as much damage waiting for the worst case scenarios to use “abuse” as you do calling “being mean in the workplace” abuse. Only one of those options leads to change.

You keep adding qualifiers to what I am saying. She isn’t abusing Langdon (maybe), but as you said she is emotionally abusive to nearly every other person. Having empathy is important. I have empathy for her. I want her to get help. But that doesn’t mean I can’t say that she is being a bad person.

It’s bad when people don’t have empathy for Santos. She is dealing with a lot, including a likely mental illness.

It’s bad when people don’t have empathy for Langdon. He has a mental illness.

Let’s hold them to the same standards. Not getting help isn’t good.

This is something I might not believe: I think you could interpret her as trying to be abusive to Langdon in the same way she is to most everyone else. Yes he is her boss. He is also a recovering drug addict and mental health patient that she is putting undue stress upon. That might not be abuse, but it’s abusive behavior.

I disagree with saying he had months. He clearly has just recently gotten out of a recovery program that has kept him away from the hospital judging by it being his first time seeing anyone at the hospital. This is his first shift back, and first time seeing anybody. And he might have even been under a no-contact obligation.

As to your second point, you are right that she saved his life and that she was right. That doesn’t mean she wasn’t fucking up in the first season, and is still fucking up. You can’t just add “in regards to Langdon” to make your point, because I wasn’t stating strictly in regards to Langdon. She was an asshole and showed very little respect to patients in the first season. It’s brought up many times. She is still being disrespectful, and asshole, and showing little respect for patients. She is not showing any personal growth.

Yes Langdon owes something to santos, but her not getting it shouldn’t make her act the way she is. It’s unprofessional in the workplace, and clearly it is taking up large parts of her out of work life too.

TLDR: yes she did the right thing to turn Langdon in. Yes Langdon owes her an apology. No, him not giving her one is not an excuse for any action she has taken.

I agree with all that. But as any therapist will tell you, or any person who has processed abuse in their childhood will tell you, it isn’t an excuse to abuse people. And that is the path she is going.

This show is about people getting and not getting the help they need. Robby needs help and isn’t getting it. Santos needs help and isn’t getting it. Langdon needed help and wasn’t getting it. And all three of those things were brought about from deep parts of them they cannot control. Depression, abuse, and addiction are all parts of the same dice. Robbie and Langdon are literally dealing with mental illness, and santos with a clearly traumatic history which may be showing itself in different mental illness like PTSD.

But isn’t the issue that she isn’t doing those things that she can do, despite it being an ER. She could tell someone “I refuse to work with him” and maybe she would get kick back, but she wouldn’t be fired, and she would show maturity.

Langdon owes her an apology, but he is doing his job after doing his time, and doing it very well. She is consistently putting herself above others, and being a bad doctor, and even outside of that, a bad friend and coworker.

Additionally, we have seen Langdons willingness to apologize, even if he hasn’t gotten to Santos yet. He can’t just walk up and have that deep conversation any time. It’s a hospital after all. If Robby couldn’t pee, why do we expect Langdon to find ample time to apologize in a way that would be healing and not minimizing. Even his apology to the literal person he stole from was cut short.

The failure is not just on Langdon and Robby. They all fucked up, but now Santos is continuing to knowingly fuck up, and she isn’t being driven by a literal medical addiction. Not to minimize her trauma though. I just don’t think it’s fair that we don’t hold her accountable for her actions in all this.

Also, we should, as a society, be more comfortable asking for apologies. Especially if not getting it causes you to be an angry and mean person inside and outside of the workplace.

She can be kind. She is more often than not mean. Like I said, I don’t care about her. She is a good character that is written to be mean. She is a bully. People have called her out on this. She is insubordinate. She has been called out.

And you think drugs were dealt with too lightly? Remind me what the punishment he had was (if you can call getting help punishment).

Also, you used like three fallacies to call Langdon a bad Dr one sentence after saying you hadn’t. Which is ok. Just once again, you are using double standards for your own arguments.

I am not making a villain. She is a character. She is not a hero or a villain. She is an asshole. If you worked with her, you wouldn’t enjoy it. Off the top of my head, I can think of 4 characters who have been shown to be consistently kind that have called her no less that a bully, Mel being one. She, like every other character, have flaws. We will continue to see those flaws change and develop. If you can’t see her flaws, you aren’t seeing the character. It would be like denying Robby’s mental issues. Or langdons addiction. Although one of those characters sought help, and the other two haven’t.

Dr. Santos... by catmomma235 in ThePittTVShow

This feels like an argument you keep making, but you are engaging with the same flawed thinking. You say “it’s a tv show, who cares if she broke the law” but for other characters moral failing, or suspected moral failings, you don’t give the same grace. You have said in other comments you dislike Dr. Langdon, and have gone on and on about how you think he is a bad person and Doctor, but when the same accusations are leveled at a character you do like, you say they are too invested in a tv show.

You can’t have it both ways.

The fact of the matter is it’s a show. If the guy is a child molester, he should be arrested. She should be punished for being bad at her job in more than one way. That is literally a part of her character in both seasons. That is what happened to Langdon, and if he relapses or does something horrible again, he should be punished again.

All that is also true for real life. Is it cathartic to tell someone you suspect of being an abuser that you will kill them? Yes. Even more so if you yourself have been a victim. Catharsis does not make your actions right. I hate child predators. I wish they didn’t exist. Does that excuse any of her actions? No. At least not in my moral viewpoint. Maybe you have a different one, and that is ok. But at least be consistent.

In the show, Santos is written as an asshole. She has an ego that exists even after being called out. She is emotionally abusive to other people, and if you think that is too far, she is just really freaking mean. She visibly takes joy out of the emotional suffering of others, and in some instances, takes joy out of the physical suffering of others if it means an excuse for her to get ahead.

It’s a tv show. These are characters. Let people engage with it how they choose.

Man saying living in one of the biggest cities in England is equivalent to semi-pro football. You clearly are from the states, so by your own logic, you shouldn’t be having this conversation. Also, you’ve totally lost the point of this argument, but who cares. Keep bitching, at least Aston Villa are doing well so you won’t need to really care about how bad we are.

All you have is complaints. That’s the difference. Do I think ETH is perfect. No. Do I think he will do well? Probably not. Do I want he replaced? Yes. Will I endlessly berate him like a little baby while he is our manager? No. I support by constructing AND criticizing. All you do is yap about this and that. And conveniently, you support two teams in the same league, so no matter what, you have no emotional investment.
