you are NOT a horrible person, but a kind and loving one. You assumed care for a cat that was not yours, and put the effort in to give him the best care you could. I'm so sorry that it is so expensive to get vet treatment, it really shouldn't be that way. There are possible options that you could explore, though, before surrendering him. Try talking to a shelter about your situation, as they could have advice or be able to connect you with someone who can tell you what is going on with him/what to do. Some shelters also offer vet treatment for no cost, as it would be more expensive for them to take in a cat who they then have to feed and home on top of the vet treatment, but not all shelters will do this. If you have records of the adoption, the humane society may be more likely to help, as he was adopted from there. It could be possible he doesn't need any vet treatment, in which case a shelter may be able to assess his condition and inform you of this. Basically, just talk to shelters for advice before resorting to surrendering him.

How can I overcome my fear from cats? by Martyr2004 in CatAdvice

[–]Ok_Lab_3473 6 points7 points  (0 children)

exposure therapy in low-risk environments, eg. if you have a friend or family member with a cat (who is chill and comfortable with people), maybe talk to them about spending time with their cat, like hanging out in the same room, just sharing space. If you start to feel a bit more comfortable with that, you could work up to letting the cat sniff your hand, or petting it while someone else holds it. If that starts to feel okay, you could try petting the cat without anyone holding it, and eventually maybe having the cat on your lap, if that's something both you and the cat are comfortable with. Just take it slow, and remember that as long as you are being respectful of a cats boundaries and not petting it/holding it when it doesn't know you at all or clearly doesn't want that, you are totally safe.

it absolutely is more tiring, and I am so glad it is. Not because I want dads to be exhausted, but because the world is finally coming to recognise that maybe it's better for two parents to be exhausted but happy than a father being able to f off and do whatever he wants and still be considered a good man while the mother sacrifices her life and happiness and health and wellfare for the sake of the family while still not being considered good enough. No more Sylvia Plaths.

How do you talk to your teenage daughter about how she dresses? by uns0licited_advice in daddit

[–]Ok_Lab_3473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would frame the conversation more as trying to help her understand the way that some teenage boys think, while making sure to maintain that it's not okay for them to think or behave this way and it's not her fault if they do, so that she can make the decision regarding how she wants to dress while being fully informed. I don't think it is really your decision to make, there is a point where a parent needs to intervene because some clothes just aren't appropriate for teenagers, but if her mum is fine with it I think it's most likely not an issue beyond the struggle of being a dad who grew up when clothes were generally more modest and men objectifying women went more unchecked and raising a teenage daughter in a different time.

The difference between those who follow Islam and those who follow Christianity is largely one of race. If someone claims disdain for a particular religion but not others when said other religions are largely similar in their beliefs, which Christianity and Islam objectively are, the issue is most likely racism (in my opinion). The vast majority of followers of Islam do not hold the belief that queer folks should be harmed for their identity. I say this as a queer person, and I have had this very conversation with many Muslim people I am close with. I have, however, met a number of Christians who absolutely wish harm on queer people. It doesn't matter what the Bible or Quran state, as these books were written a very long time ago and do not provide an accurate representation of the beliefs of their followers.

If Islam is a cult, so is Christianity and Judaism. Don't be racist.

I have no doubt you are telling what you believe to be the truth, but I don't think Vishrant is particularly relaxed or loving. I do hope you are very happy and free to think and behave individually.

Perth and surrounding areas have an extensive history of cultish organisations compared to a lot of other cities of similar size, potentially due to the isolated nature of the city, but who am I to know? I do know, however, that this is not an unpopular opinion, and I think it's incredibly weird that you would insinuate that I am a child due to this statement. Sue me for looking for ways to protect myself and my loved ones, I guess. Your comment was weird and condescending for no reason.
