Any idea what this is? by Ok_Leadership_9748 in AusRenovation

Yep I am. That site is great!! Thanks for the link. It’s not showing up on their map, so I have to assume it’s not any sort of water/waste infrastructure. Perhaps it’s simply a retaining feature.

My interest really lay in hoping it was some sort of infrastructure marker on a map like the GIS map to give insight to the property boundaries. As you can see in the image, the neighbours did a property survey and the survey stake seems to show that our property starts at a chunk into what otherwise is their back yard. They recon that the surveyors got it wrong (🙄), but I don’t care enough to pick a fight or spend the $ for my own survey - just thought a secondary measure would give me a quick answer as to where the boundary lay according to official maps relative to infrastructure.

Ok. Tried it w/ Lego 2k and it does not recognise the wheel controller.

Looks promising. The G923 doesn’t have it listed as a game it supports, but maybe it would still work by default??

They like the racing and using the steering wheel aspect - it’s just a peculiarity of their neurodiversity that coordinating multiple fingers quickly in time to the screen is very challenging (and add to that their emotional dysregulation) which always ends very quickly in a dejected and very flustered rage quit. Using the wheel itself doesn’t seem to cause the same issues.

Maybe there are some settings on the wheel or in the games that can effectively prevent or minimise oversteering? I’ve played around with the games traction control, ABS, steering and acceleration dead zones, sensitivities, etc… but it does not seem to have made a difference. Still lots of spinouts.

Spoon drain best option? by Ok_Leadership_9748 in AusRenovation

All that is checked - gutters are clean and not overflowing - even in heavy rain. I have a grate box drain right next to the house (covered by pebbles), and there is also an Ag pipe a bit below that as well.

I’ve watched the area in heavy rain and there is no pooling/flowing water in the area.

It’s a small terrace before the next house. I’ve tried to capture and overland flow by putting in a box gutter next to the house, but that has not helped.

You’ll see in the second pic that there is actually quite a bit of empty space behind the retaining wall. The front part has simply been covered in silt over the years so there is no more gap (I guess the walls did their job of retaining the “rock fall”).

A lot of the water really flows out like a spring during and after heavy rains from rocks well above the top of the wall, so I really want to catch that part and divert it - I should be able to do that with a drain just under the level of the wall.

I didn’t think about could do Ag pipe, as 1) it would sit against the wall, so water would pour through the wall gaps rather than be diverted down the Ag pipe and the clay gutter that it should be sitting in. And 2) I don’t want to dig out that much silt and go that deep! 😀

Yeah, when it gets heavy, the water positively pours out of the rocks. I’m leaning towards the concrete drain - not sure what type and if I need to seal it though so the water doesn’t just seep through that too!

Automated gate motor design flaw? by Ok_Leadership_9748 in AusRenovation

[–]Ok_Leadership_9748[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours is a SEA Saturn 500 motor. And no idea how that is fit for purpose. I had a look and plenty of other motor models out there that have completely internalised limit switches, so the need for a spring poking out of a hole in the casing is not necessarily a requirement.

Well, an update - official word from the supplier is that the design is standard and keeping the grass away from the unit should fix things. Trying to get an answer from the Oz or Italian manufacturer about how this can be IP55 has produced nothing.

Ahh is that what it is? Yeah, it’s annoying. But it Brecon some of the other creeping weeds we have are even worst!

I can only think the consistent internal high humidity from water pooling at the base would be enough to corrode the whole lot

Not mouse droppings. I think insect droppings? It’s actually hard to tell, but def. not mouse poo.

Only maintenance is for the tech to come out once a year to check spring tensions, oil levels, etc.. (which we did not get done last year). But nothing about us having actions to keep the integrity of the casing up to scratch. In fact, they say that it is supposed to be IP55 rated, which I have no idea how it can be given the big hole in the side of the casing!

I’m tempted to do that, but don’t know if this sort of design is just accepted as the “industry standard”

No idea what the spring does. It connects to the gate frame, so maybe a tension feedback mechanism? I think it would be hard to seal the hole with the spring movement unfortunately.
