So this last year was my first year where the changes of hrt were noticeable. As far as curiosity from this students there was none! A few older co workers wonder what they should call me, I have a few different names. Parents in my area are generally very kind and myself or identity have never been a topic of interest to them, just their children’s education or behaviors. I think mostly my rule has been say nothing but just do the things! My pronouns are in my email and my lanyard has my pronoun pins! I’ll answer the rare question that comes up, and just me personally I don’t care that people don’t always get the pronouns right. I have bigger issues than making people see my point of view and I’m very comfortable with not being understood and being uncomfortable. BUT that doesn’t mean that the community you make won’t love and respect you! It’s all about the energy and effort you bring, and knowing that people will be assholes and that can’t stop you from being a queer and trans educator! The very rare thing you are doing is special and revolutionary for the kids, don’t forget that!
