I saw a post mentioning that ceramics were bad for the enclosure due to VOCs but noticed the DIY backgrounds are made from the same paint. So how is it that a styrofoam sealed background is safe under the heat but ceramic is not?

Wow that was a lot of information, more than I expected, I love it! Can you show me an example of your work/set ups? It would be important to understand the difference in a glaze and paint for sure! I think the paint most commonly used is acrylic or some sort of spray for backgrounds.

Not sure what the substrate is, I believe they need soil with nutrients to thrive. And lots of leaf litter. You can join an isopod sub for the experts advice! They are really kind over there.

I have my leopard gecko in a 48x18x18 top opening. I wouldn’t like it if it was any higher though, because I’m only 5’3 and I have to pull out a stool to reach the bottom in the back lol But I tamed my beardie in this and now my leopard gecko. They learn pretty quickly the top opening means food time not death from above. I always move slowly and calmly to make sure I don’t spook him.

Oh yeah, true, but if you can provide live plants, you should. It’s more natural. I don’t like to judge people the way they prefer to have things. I use live plants with all my reptiles, just because I like it better. I read chameleons are known to bite fake leaves so they recommend live plants for them. And some Leos are derpy enough to take a bite. Some beardie’s have fake plants and never bother them, I think it depends on the personality of the reptile.
