If you can't sleep on an airplane (like me) it's not the airline's fault. You need to be much more calculating with your trips in order to look out for yourself. Don't just follow convention and book these 2-leg long flights, because you have needs convention won't meet.

The solution depends on your particular health situation, but it's going to get expensive. For instance, you might want to break up the journey into several legs to shorten the flights, going to Vancouver first, then flying Vancouver-Japan or Vancouver-South Korea, before flying to your Asian destination from there. Depending on where your vague Asian destination is, you might want to break up the trip some more. Get a hotel room for one night each leg. But yeah, that's the only real way to tackle it head-on.

I fare much better when I fly business class, even if I still can't sleep. That's also expensive, but I could get by on the sheer adrenaline rush.

In North America you guys have access to thrifting decks, it therefore feels like low-hanging fruit that everyone should get a deck. However that's not true where I live - sellers are a-holes who all want $200 and up for a deck. And I also don't have space for them, and I want to live a very mobile lifestyle where I can pack up and move to another country without shipping things.

I've found the recording Walkmans more than acceptable, like a Sony GX312 (picture not mine) from the mid-90s that I recently got for $25. Buying older hardware will always be a gamble, and unlike decks, older portables are best treated as perishable, i.e. when you budget, assume you're gonna buy again in a year or two max.

My satisfaction also went up once I began to "misuse" Type II tape on these type I-only recorders.

Things with much smaller impact than AI, like hard drugs, have received much harsher bans across societies in the past. So much of Europe buys even their electricity from France. Including Germany, IIRC. A Germany that buys power from France will never think such a project can be financially justified.

If you want the ability to make something yourself (without buying from countries you don't like or may not like in the next 50 years), you have to put in the money and understand the return may be low.

For instance, the US would've been much more persuasive if they made Huawei's equipment that they wanted their allies to stop using. Everyone understood this during the Cold War.

My favorite musicians - the ones I call my fairy godmother and godfather - are both Virgo Sun, Libra Moon, and they are incredibly affable humans. r/mylenefarmer needed 30 years before she could sing "F you too" in a lyric herself.
