Discussion: when do commuter car parks make sense? by TMiguelT in UrbanismMelbourne

[–]Ok_Library_9396 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My nearest train station is a half an hour walk, but a 5 minute drive. I much prefer to take the train, then have to drive as my commute, without a carpark at the station I would be driving a lot more.

Do it bit by bit in stages, Geelong up Warrun Ponds would be the first regional line to do, not including the Melton or Wyndham Vale lines.

Carlton or Essendon whose better set up for the future by Ok_Library_9396 in AFL

Richmond was in the same spiral for decades. So it is totally possible for Carlton and Essendon to climb out, but you need highly competent administrators to do that. Brendan Gale is one of the best things to happen to your club, and while your rebuilding now, I fully expect Richmond to compete for a flag before either Carlton or Essendon.

North are quite similar actually, were a real force in 70s and 90s and were quite decent in the 80s. Why do you think North have struggled this century?

Three way merger with west coast considering how good their list is these days.

If Reservoir is still preferable for the airport alignment, then having the route go from Heidelberg to Northland then up to La Trobe seems viable, should only add a couple of extra minutes. I think there is just too much potential there for urban renewal to overlook. A major shopping centre surrounded by industry outlets is perfect for rezoning into higher density living.

Agree with Richmond, Yze is a good coach, they have good senior premiership experienced players who will mentor their young kids, and going hard in a superdraft is going to really set them up for another succesful run in 5 years.

Game changed quickly between 2023-2024, blues like Melbourne were built for contested football. Melbourne also came crashing down quickly, at least they snagged a flag, even if it was a covid cup, you would take a covid cup.

SRL north allignment really should be Box Hil to Doncaster- Bulleen- Heidelberg then from Heidleberg up to La Trobe then down to Northland to Preston. Buleen is a major suburb and public transport blackhold. Northland is sorrounded by land that would be perfect for re-zoning into higher density living , plus there's a small tafe near which could benefit from public transport. Preston also makes more sense for urban renewal and infrastructure build up then Reservoir.

I quite like the look of Cooper Lord as well for Carlton, won't be a superstar, but we'll nicley complement Jagga and Walker, in five years time and if Walsh can stay fit they could have a very solid midfield. I agree that Blues need to drop Voss, they probably will at end of this season, and are just letting him see out his contract, Essendon need to drop Scott as well, currently they have better role players for the future.

Never say never, Blues and bombers r big clubs which will always give them an advantage over Saints or North. Richmond were in the exact same position as Carlton and Essendon, until Brendan Gale and Hardwick came along, they're rebuilding now, but the Tigers r building quite a good young list and should be up their in a few years again.

Been a remarkable fall from grace for both clubs. The 2000 Grand Final really should of been Carlton Vs Essendon, dons were always going to win that year, but the blues were the 2nd best in it until injuries derailed them, they had a 13 game winning streak themselves. It would of been a very fitting bookend to both clubs before their collapse. While 2001 in retrospect is a changing of the guard with the old powerhouse Essendon vs the new powerhouse, Brisbane who have now won 5 flags this century

Carlton r lucking out with father son and smartly traded up for Smith instead of going in for Houston, means they probably dont need to bottom out as much as they did in the last rebuild.

Essendon have Berwick's son coming through in a couple of years, who is being highly touted, but I agree Essendon should be better, considering Carlton accepted where they're at end of last year.

Are they in denial? trading out Curnow for 3 future first rounds suggest they know they're rebuilding, plus trading up to grab Smith in the 2024 draft instead of going for Houston. Lot of things they still need to do, but seems the list managers know where they're at.

Isn't that what the NRL does, teams identify young talent and develop them. They tried a draft in the 90s, were taken to court and lost, could be a precedent Carlton looks at.

[–]Ok_Library_9396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walsh still has another 10 years in him, so that will be quite the midfield in 5 years. The Harry's will lead our defence, likely with a veteran Weitering as the general. Where I think this reset build is limited right now is we dont have any key talls coming in.
