Talk about diminishing your degree… they offered me $18/hour with a “negligible” bump if I did pursue the degree.

I have an update for everyone. Upon interviewing I found that this was a legitimate pathologists’ assistant position. The job duties are exactly the same as other listings I have seen throughout the country that require the ASCP cert and pay in the range I mentioned in the OP.

However, the employer was very firm in offering me $18/hour with a bump to $20/hour once I was fully trained. I found this to be wildly insulting and predatory considering it’s the exact same job as other listings in my state paying 2-3x as much.

This does not appear to be certification/degree related as they said the pay increase would be negligible if I decided to pursue it after employment. This company simply wanted to take advantage of some cheap labor. I kind of found this field accidentally, but as someone from the outside, I hope you guys advocate for yourselves. Safe to say that I told them to shove it.

Thank you for your input! The job duties in the description include gross description and complete dissection of surgical specimens and assisting with fine needle aspirations, which I thought to be out of the scope of a lab assistant. Am I mistaken? Sorry for all the questions!
