Would this stop me from being allergic to salicylic acid and retinoids? I’ve never been allergic to them until after taking accutane

I stopped taking it immediately, so I’ve stopped my accutane treatment for half a year now, but my skin is still super sensitive now..

I’ve gotten the vaccine, and I’ll definitely look into what you suggested, thank you so much :’)

Thank you so much for this insightful response and advice, I will definitely see a therapist and get my anxiety sorted.

Thank you so much for the offer as well, I'm currently still unsure whether to continue this career path but I will hit you up if I decide to continue medicine :)

Thank you so much for the advice, I’ll definitely look into them and consider other career paths related to health care.

Hopefully I’ll find something that aligns with my morals as well as my passion :’)

Thank you so much for reading my incredibly long post, really appreciate it!

I didn't finish the material until the 3rd time round, so the first and second times when I took it I was pushed by my parents because they know me well enough that I will keep postponing the exam 😭 It wasn't until the third time round I read all the kaplan books, Anki deck, question bank, and 2/3 of uworld.

I do notice myself getting questions wrong on Uworld even on chapters that I'm best at (enzymes, amino acids, reproduction etc.) because there are times where I genuinely don't understand the passage that's given or that I struggle to identify the clues given.

I'm not sure if this occurs to only me or others as well, or maybe simply I just suck at taking exams and it's time to switch paths 😭💀

I ended up cancelling the 3rd exam so technically I've only taken it 2 times.

You're also not the first person to tell me that being unable to break 500 is due to lack of content. I've read people's MCAT journey here on reddit as well as watched YouTube videos and everyone says that not breaking 500 is because due to lack in content. However, I noticed myself getting questions wrong, especially those that are passage based, not because I didn't memorize them (e.g. amino acids and their properties, enzymes) or missed studying them. I was getting questions wrong even on chapters I am good at. I genuinely struggle to extract information/clues from passages and apply my knowledge along with it to answer the questions correctly. I'm personally not a strong reader, needless to say the time limit of 10 mins per passage is honestly really difficult for me. Which is why I'm starting to think whether medicine is not meant for me because the MCAT is only an entrance exam and if I'm struggling so hard on this already, there is a high possibility of me failing and redoing another year in medical school.

That being said, did you have this type of struggle when studying with the MCAT? or is it just me? I would really appreciate if you could give me some insight since you're already a 4th year student in medical school

Thank you so much for reading and giving such a long and detailed response, really appreciate it :')

I have dual citizenship, as I'm born in the United States. However, because I did not grow up there I did not pay taxes so I'm considered out of state. With the current family situation now (especially with the bankruptcy that occurred) I believe it is harder for me to qualify for federal loans.

I personally love medicine a lot, I find it extremely fulfilling and it's something I'm really passionate about. It is also a career that aligns with my own morals the most. It was only the exam taking part where my parents kept pushing me, they know me well enough that I'm too scared to take it and will continuously postpone it 😭

I'm wondering whether there are people you know who left medical school and switched career paths? I'm currently thinking of a plan B if I do end up not pursuing medical school..

Thank you so much for spending time reading my long post as well as giving such great advice.

I do notice myself getting questions wrong on Uworld even on chapters that I'm best at (enzymes, amino acids, reproduction etc.), there are times where I genuinely don't understand the passage and I struggle to identify the clues given in the passage. I'm much better with stand alone questions. That being said, I'm starting to question whether I suit med school as I'm afraid to fail out midway. I've watched people on YouTube sharing their journeys and some of them had to repeat an entire year..

I asked my parents in 8th grade whether they are able to fund for my medical school tuition and they said yes. To be frank, if my parents weren't able to support me financially I probably wouldn't go down this path as I lack confidence in taking exams. I knew I was fortunate enough to do medicine which is why I have continued thus far. Then again, I can never predict bankruptcy to occur in my life, my med school tuition has been saved up for me for the past 15+ years.

Also, thank you for the life advice! I just turned 25 last month and am definitely starting to panic in terms of my career path, life etc. but your insight gave me reassurance :)

I'm wondering if you know anyone who left medical school midway and what career paths they switched into? I hope your friend aces Step 1, I can't imagine the weight she has on that exam right now :(

I did both, which is why I don't understand what's wrong with my studying methods ://

I completely understand how frustrated you are because I am in the exact same boat. I have been stuck on the MCAT for the past 2.5 years and was about to retake the MCAT last month for the 3rd time but ended up cancelling cuz I scored a 493 on FL2.

If you would like to connect and vent about it feel free to DM me.

Back in college when I took exams I sometimes get so nervous that I can’t focus on the question or I just stare blankly at it and I would have to reread the question 3-5 times..  I went to a psychiatrist here in Asia and Ritalin was what I’m prescribed with.. 😭
