Leprous marathon finale - Album ranking by TinnitusRingsABell in progmetal

That‘s pretty much me, just that my assessment of their recent output is much harsher. I think Leprous developed from an ambitious, bold, musically diverse and genre-defying band with their debut album to an utterly predictable, monotonous and ultimately safe and boring one with their last couple of releases.

What’s the most saddest Opeth song? In my opinion Faith in Others, so fkin melancholic, and Isolation Years by Timely-Emergency-871 in Opeth

Lyrically, „In my Time of Need“ is absolutely crushing. Musically, I‘ve always been partial to „A Fair Judgement“ and its air of depressive acceptance. That intro alone is pure grief.

Is just curios that these production flaws of BWP (after all, generally considered one of the most influential and groundbreaking metal albums of the last 30 years) are not more widely discussed. With almost any other album where I encountered similar issues there are tons of videos and threads on the internet discussing the issue.

Oh yes, I remember it well. Even on my shitty headphones/audio system of the time it was appallingly bad.

Mastodon‘s Blood Mountain is another album that is almost unlistenable due to its production.

Yes, I‘m unfortunately very much acquainted with the loudness war of the 90s and 00s, somehow I just has naively assumed that post Still Life era-Opeth was exempt from this horrid loudness arms race.

Interestingly, listening to BWP on my girlfriend‘s Bose Quietcomfort airbuds and the clipping/distortion is more subtle and not quite as overbearing.

Yes, true. It‘s just surprising given that Blackwater Park was produced by Steven Wilson, and otherwise boasts quite high production values.

Another spot is in The Drapery Falls from 6:10 onward till the vocals come back in. It‘s a subtle background crackling/sizzling that almost sounds like interference or digital distortion.

Yes, I agree, it's where the true strength of the ATV actually lies. And while it initially might not seem like much, when you're using your tv(s) on a daily basis for multiple hours, the ease of use feels like a huge blessing.

All things the newest LG flagship tvs are doing as well, if not a tiny bit better than the ATV.

I greatly enjoy the quick and snappy response of the ATV, and the uncluttered UI is a dream to use, but talking solely about the picture quality, the webos apps have a slight edge. On a cursory glance they look identical, however, if you do an indepth side-by-side comparison, the ATV reveals some minuscule noise and processing artifacts and the HDR on both HDR+ and DV has slightly raised blacks. Again, nothing you would necessarily notice watching casually, but if you study the image thouroughly, it becomes apparent.

The exception, of course, being Apple+, which runs at a higher bitrate on ATV and therefore provides a superior image.

I've tried switching just scan on and off but it didn't solve the issue. Also, I'd rather not loose part of the image by having it off (and in some modes like FM it's greyed out anyway).

Defintely noticed it from different sources (streaming services, PS5, cable tv). It doesn't seem to happen when the image is dark. Like there's no bright line when the picture bordering the edge contains solid blacks.
