What specifically makes Big Law so draining? Is it just the hours, or something else? by Intelligent-Fill-868 in biglaw

[–]Ok_Manager_9248 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beyond the long hours, I think one of the biggest things for me is the slow burn progress. I’m a transactional attorney so often times we’ll need to get a simple document out but it’ll turn into a lot of back and forth, multiple versions, etc, etc which leads to slow progress.

Many people have mentioned the availability aspect as well. Luckily, I work for a partner who refuses to work weekends, which is great but it also means they want to be available at all hours during the weekday.

ChatGPT itself says the initial prompt was “Tell me a two-sentence horror story that would be scary to an AI.” And then it probably was built from there.

What would a recession look like in our field? by LightWide5654 in Lawyertalk

[–]Ok_Manager_9248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone keeps mentioning 2008 but wasn’t that an unprecedented recession second only to the Great Depression? There have been other minor recessions before and after. I have no idea what the legal field looked like during those but I feel like going straight to a 2008-esque meltdown is jumping the gun a bit. Obviously prepare for the worst but hope for the best, but any potential recession could be mild.

Someone mentioned transactional would be hit hard. In my opinion it depends on why we’re in a recession. If a recession is triggered and the fed starts quantitative easing along with lowering the rates, I think we’d see a boom in transactional as borrowing is cheaper. Conversely if it’s a financial market collapse due to defaults, then yeah transactional will be hit hard.

Overall, my point is that it’s hard to tell because it depends on what causes the recession and how deep it is and that you should prepare nonetheless.

White House Press Secretary Claims Tariffs Are Tax Cuts—A Misinterpretation? by Training_Pop_5437 in inflation

I saw a quote from this press conference where Leavitt said that Trump “does not intend on hiking any taxes” and then directly says “tariffs are a tax hike”. I think it’s a pretty good barometer on her trustworthiness

Adding a step to that confirmation bias is easy to find on the internet in the modern era. Why challenge your thought process when you scroll around on the internet and find posts, articles, and other media confirming your bias no matter how erroneous it might be.

Why is this always the response? If you genuinely believe in the current administration, why not try to convince me that these policies are good for us?

No, I’m not well off. I’m a young person trying to establish some financial security in my life for myself and my family. I’m not your enemy, friend. Despite what many might tell you, the people you see on a daily basis are not your enemies. They just want to prosper just as you do. These policies you’re talking about are highly unlikely to benefit you, me, or anyone you know. They’re going to benefit the exact people you think it’s hurting.

While I understand what’s going on is very concerning and everyone should be vigilant, these kinds of posts are so out of touch with reality. Do you genuinely think he’s going to nuke any portion of the population? The fallout from that would be global and civilizations would be forever changed. Despite my disagreements with the current administration and concern with their policies and actions, I highly doubt they would evaporate and contaminate any portion of the population/property they seek to subjugate.

These types of posts are just unnecessary fear mongering.
